Strange also for me is that in the Chinese calendar, the only animal that "does not exists" is the Dragon ...
... and I have a dragon too ;)
It makes sense to believe the dragon is an ancient reptilian creature that humans turned into a myth.
It makes no sense for the Chinese to have non-existent animals in their calendar.

Probably they were here even before the dinosaurs. We didn't see dinos, and we didn't see dragons. No harm in believing. When I believe in such things, it makes me happy about the fact that nothing is impossible in this world.
But I have actually met dragons in my dreams!

Dragons. These small guys are gliders, and their name actually means "Flying Dragon." So, this might be the closest we get in modern times to seeing a real dragon, but the evidence left behind by their ancestors is exciting dragon enthusiasts around the world.
There's a theory out there that says that some dragon remains were mistaken as dinosaur fossils.
Who knows, it might have some truth behind it.

Sure every Buddhist temple has a Statue called as Makara Thorana! (Makara = Dragon) This Makara was a creation of combination of Lion, Elephant, War Hog, Eagle and so on!

Now that I think about it, dragons are actually foreign to me.
There's no culture in my country that has a record of dragons.
There's reptile worship in some areas, but it's the usual kind we know.

The last unopened door of Padnamabaswamy temple has dragons carved on them and till date is off limits to majority of the people. This door is ancient and very uniquely built. Wow, that's so cool @onceuponatime, talking about dragons, I've heard and read from some articles that the dragon is not real, it's all just an imagination of the ancients, and I also read that the dragon is true and he is real , and dragons have a very good history and dragons have tremendous power. Until now I am still confused by all that, I have not found for the right answer. Maybe someone here, can give an answer in your post this. Thanks for sharing, and wish you a wonderful day... :)

Most people who heard anything about dragons knew them from the Bible, and it's likely that most of the people at the time believed in the literal existence of dragons. After all, Leviathan — the massive monster described in detail in the Book of Job, chapter 41.

This is no myth. If the existence of Dinosaur was proved, dragon arts especially found among the Chinese cannot be mere fiction. It is almost a lost forgotten creature but only reminded by art
I don't think so that dragons really does exist. It's all because we love in fantasy world and love dream. We create things with our own taste. People use them in fiction story and engraved in coins or structure. @onceuponatime
