- Playing in a Rain of Fire -
I was recently gifted a picture I took a while back, except this time it was enlarged and framed. I love photography, and for a little while had access to a DSLR and was able to create some amazing shots. You don't necessarily have to have a DSLR to make or take great pictures, because I have taken so pretty good shots with an Iphone, but ultimately the DSLRs do take better quality shots, and can allow for better trick photography such as this shot.
This picture was actually taken several minutes after the rain had stopped. In the background, which isn't really visible, there is a roaring, and I mean raging, Los Angeles River no more than several steps behind the my friend who is in the middle of the shot. I give him much thanks because the ramp was wet and a little slippery, so it took quite a bit of courage to do what he did.
Fortunately, everything was wet, and I had planned out what I wanted to do very well ahead of time. I had my game plan well figured out, so that my camera settings, the distance and all the needed equipment that was needed to make this trick photography shot happen was ready and accounted for. My friend and I had even rehearsed his part of spinning around the burning steel wool (which really isn't burning as much as smoldering) before going out late into a cold and wet night.
In this shot you can actually see the flooded and raging Los Angeles River to the upper left. It is that grey looking stuff up until you see the cement barrier. I posted this shot on Steemit Here
When we arrived at the location, under the 6th St. Bridge in Downtown Los Angeles (which no longer exists), we had to go through a long, dark, graffitied and stinking tunnel to reach the ramp that leads down into the river channel. We also had to contend with some of the homeless that live down there, but they left us alone for the most part. It took no more than 3 attempts to get the shots that I needed, of which two pictures came out really nice looking in my opinion. As I stated earlier, it had just stopped raining, everything was really wet, and we didn't bring a fire extinguisher, but yet I still had to put out some fires that ignited due to the flying embers.
Now that the first pictured has been framed, I think it is time for the second one to be framed as well, but I think it should be framed exactly as I have it above, with a split down the middle with a white border around each piece. I just think it looks better that way.
Comments, suggestions or questions let me know.
Full Steem Ahead!
@streetstyle
I’m definitely going to have to try something like that it looks great. Cheers mike

Damn! Like something going on in the space:)
Magnificent lighting photo which allow to rain&fire!
This is absolutely fantastic.
I'm in love with the level of creativity in capturing this photograph.
Thank you @wa2qr Glad you like the photography.
Awesome photo. If this is impressive in the photo, I imagine how delightfully it looks in reality.
Thanks @magnata
Wow it's really raging, you know the first time I just set my eyes on this, I thought it was photoshopped or you know a picture of fire scattered and shot, this is really a courageous shot I've never been a good photographer, however you said this picture was taken with an IPhone or DSLR, no?
Wow it's a splendid piece without your briefing on this nobody will ever fathom the creativity.
What's the resolutions of the camera? I mean the pixel
@josediccus I took this with a Canon EOS T3i early in 2015
There is no photoshop to the actual image itself, it is a slow shutter speed shot, and the real picture is better than the printed version.
You made an art i think you an expert in this kind of activities well it looks beautifull.
Wow, it's amazing I love the creativeness, your friend there is really courageous 😂😂
I guess that is why we sometimes call him "Rambo" @josediccus
Hahahaha so you live in Los Angeles?
Nothing misses your eye @josediccus
Lol exactly, you know I have ginabot? and I take time to read as well 😂😂😂
Rainin' fire – this is great!
Thank you for sharing these pictures. I especially like the two pictures that are set besides each other. This surely would get some nice reactions at an exhibition... :)
wow! that's lOoking awesome cool, beautiful firework!
wow i too tired it way back but not as good as this one this is pro stuff :D
thats a great shot
Your photos are amazing, clear and not blurry. Sparks like fireworks.
Is it dangerous?
It is not dangerous @aulnyaksyabandi , but you do have to be careful because the sparks don't seem bright but they will start a fire. Most try this stuff at the beach for this reason, otherwise for sure bring a fire extinguisher.
Yep, i see now.
Thank you very much @streetstyle

Rain of fire seriously?😳😨
You don't like the title @xawi ?
nah nah i loved it tho and also loved your photographic skills and of course, i loved it coz em big fan of your work :p but my question was seriously your friend performed under fire rain? or it was just lightning impact or artificial fire rain :)..
@xawi It is not on fire per se, but it is steel wool that you burn, and as you spin it around, more little red embers shoot out....a few hit me in the face but not my friend since he is mostly under the spinning wool, and like I said, the red embers shoot out. Some wet trash still caught fire. The red embers are then captured with a slow shutter speed in the camera, capturing all the light given off by each ember, making them seem brighter, or on fire. When taking the picture, it is actually really dark and the embers just barely glow red. That's trick photography huh?
Glad you liked.
Wow! Just amazing. You have the best choice for photography. I like all. Thanks for sharing.

Wow that's amazing! 😊
Excellent, from movies it looks like people are always using the LA river for car chases and secret meetings and all sorts of nefarious activities, nice to see that happen in real life!
taking pictures is considered nefarious @funbobby51 ?
no, but starting fires without a permit usually is.
Since this was personal art, and not for commercial or exhibition, no permit needed. It was also done on a very wet night, so what trash did catch on fire was quickly and easily put out. We were surrounded by wet concrete and a roaring river. No harm no foul. The place was left no better and no worse than when we arrived.
In fact, the two homeless guys that got to watch this shoot go down actually received a little din din, so maybe we needed a permit for that, and that would make it a nefarious night since we didn't have a permit for feeding homeless people. Hopefully the Homeless Feeding Patrol (HSP) doesn't coming knocking on my door.
not a permit to film, if you are going to play with fire it's usually a good idea to call the fire department first so then they don't show up and try to put it out, they may or may not require a permit. They might want to play with fire with you if you are doing something fun. They are all pyromaniacs. Or just go down to the LA river. Usually around here they will remind you that you don't need a permit if you say it is a cooking fire and thank you for letting them know. They don't really want to go put something out if they don't have to. Then if someone calls to report your fire they say "thank you we know"
Wao excellent photography I really like the effect you have made and your friend is brave to get in there haha I would not do it but I am a super photographic end
Congratulations 🎉🎉
