Comparison images for you to review. If you ever wanted to get an in depth look at using Capture One here's your chance. I've found that using Capture One is by far superior than Lightroom when working on ARW files from a Sony A7r.
I have found that I get results that are far superior on many occasions. Your results and editing style/taste will vary, naturally.
They do some trash talking about DNG and why you might want to consider not ever converting to that format. Certain components are stripped away - they are recommending keeping files in their native format when storing long term. They go into how to use Capture One Pro which is somewhat a shift from how we use LR.
Here's a quick test I did with minimal processing - roughly the same point used to set white point. I have not gone in and done any additional color modifications like removing magenta/purple saturation, spot removal or tried to remove the greenish cast from the lighting on the surface of the museum. Note the shadow information on the Capture One shot as well as the contrast on the reflected lights from the city - bottom right.

Very nice. I too prefer the Capture One edit. Keep up the good work!
Thank you @miche418 ! There is also quite a difference in the area where you see the trees.
I use both. Lightroom primarily to organize. Capture one to tether in the studio. That works pretty good for me. I don't know how to use capture one really at all other than to tether. One photographer that I follow and saw a creativelive show was with Joel L. He really likes captureone.
I think if I keep on messing with it I'll really get the swing of it down - just hard to keep things straight in your head as far as how LR organizes things and how there are a few ways to do it in CaptureOne. I have been able to extract better results using it with the a7r series. I think I have to upgrade to be able to work on old cr2 and what not.
I just need a new computer. Lightroom is slow as hell right now when I turn it on. I can't have lightroom on and PS at the same time. It slows my PC down. So I close LR, open PS. Finish the picture. Reopen LR and wait for it to load, rinse and repeat.
I'll look for that capture one creativelive class.
I can relate to that! Does it expensive to keep it all up to date not to mention a RAID server and buying glass! I got a Falcon Mach V a few years ago - got it at 48gb of ram which is barely enough to do some of my timelapse rendering. So far, mobo died once and the liquid cooler for the cpu died. Feels like a well maintained used car now.
Haha. I hear you. I can hardly even view my 4k video files let alone process/edit them. Forget about it. For years, I had a shiny new HP media server with four hard drives. Microsoft stopped supporting windows media server and the thing just died. I almost lost it all. Now it's just collecting dust. I saw some usb 3.0 external hard drive docking stations. Have you tried that? I think that might be my next move.
