Jealousy (Original Poem)

in #poetry7 years ago

I've written several quick rhymes personifying negative emotions as demons. I'm not the religious type but its a fun way for me to express them.

Jealousy:

Meet Jealousy the Devil-She petty sister of pride
Wife of Ego and here we go this is her diatribe
Cousin to Love she once lived above 'til blackened became her wings
And she fell to the pit where Devils sit now a demonic song she sings
Her angelic smile now defiled became a disdainful sneer
Her pale white skin took on a reddish tinge to match her newfound peers
Her once pure heart turned to wicked arts corrupted to the core
If you slip into her grip you'll lose Love forevermore
Beware her charms lest you bring harm to someone you once held dear
And in a jealous fit alone you'll sit to drown in bitter tears

Very clever and well delivered! Thanks for sharing!

Of course, thanks for reading!

I like this a lot @afoolishsage. The way you write reminds me a lot of a person I used to know who also wrote poetry. She wrote in a similar way to yourself. Clever way of writing about one of humanity's most valueless emotions. Good job and thanks for sharing.

Thanks, that means a lot. It wasn't until a few years ago that I started to save and share my work as I was always more than a bit self conscious. A variety of factors has led me to a much more relaxed and stoic attitude and now I enjoy the reactions my writing sometimes gets from others particularly family and friends. There will be more to come my friend!

Opening up and sharing your work, your inner feelings and emotions, can be difficult. I wrote a book a little while ago, fiction. 450,000 words all up and only one person has ever read it other than me. It's probably not that good butbI'm reluctant to share it. It just seems like too much of me is contained within. Not me as a character, but my efforts, my values and feelings.

I understand the feeling. Though I find we're often our own harshest critics and there are more people out there who can relate to us than we realize.
