Empty promises,
that we can start at the bottom
and climb to the top.
A better life you promise.
If people just work hard
and never stop.
The more we work,
the more you take.
The less you give,
and we can't survive,
off what we make.
You convince us we are lazy,
and lack motivation to thrive.
You insult those,
who get assistance,
just to survive.
You took our mothers away,
so that their days would be filled
with being clocked in to pay bills.
You helped bring up broken generations
due to parent-less homes
and uncooked meals.
You schemed,
and plotted some more.
Convinced us that it could all be different,
if we opened the right door.
Promising that college could be our ticket
to end all of our poverty
and secure a good life.
You said: "Education is an investment,
the mistake parents didn't partake.
Take the loans and you will rise."
Foolishly we listened.
Hoping to be on the path
to become someone great.
It all sounded so good
to enter a career with full benefits
that would seal our fate.
We weren't properly advised
and had no clue
that salaries are at a stand still,
as the cost of living rise.
You did not share
that our benefits
might as well have been lies.
Medical bills are still pouring in
while you allow pharmaceutical companies
to take and take.
Some's health is deteriorating
while their families have to watch
in agony and heartbreak.
Our debt is accumulating
more interest than we can pay.
Yet, you throw more insults,
saying we chose it to be this way.
You convince the mass to believe
the underprivileged are at fault.
Despite knowing you lead us down this path;
kicking us while we're down is your default.
You turn our peers against one another
because division helps you,
it's easier to conquer when you divide.
Our peers are so desperate
in their own lack of growth
and they see your prosperity,
so they choose to believe your side.
You will not stop.
You will continue to find ways
to pull veils over the hardworking's eyes.
You will raise your children
to exploit the poor
and inherit your position after your demise.
I do not envy you,
nor your children.
I would never want to
carry on that type of sin.
See, you may think you win,
but your soul is hollow.
Mine is filled with the service
I do for others,
so I can't exactly wallow.
I hope to instill
valuable lessons
into the next generation.
That way I help to raise a generation
of lawyers, politicians, and economists warriors
who can take on those
who think they rule this nation.
