Summer Rain, Sublime (An Original Poem)

in #poetry8 years ago (edited)

Fall down upon me
summer rain, sublime,
wash away the worries,
ease the pain of time.

I close my eyes and strain
to see my days of youth,
enchanted hours of magic,
revealing snippets of truth.

I'm feeling less uptight now,
summer rain, sublime,
memories of jungle gyms
and twisted trees to climb.

The gift of this moment
is a universe in itself,
that I know I'll soon
put upon the shelf.

The seconds tick away,
minutes come then go
but permanent are
the truths they show.

How I thank you for
these truths I find
in the warmth of
summer rain, sublime.

About This Poem: The responsibilities and worries of adulthood make us see the world very differently than when we did when we were children. During the past week I was feeling stressed with everything that needed to be accomplished with my book launch.

The sky was a little dark but my weather app said no rain so I took our beagle, Amstel, out for a walk. Guess what? It rained...but it was the nice, gentle warm rain.

At first, I was angry because I was getting wet and then, all of a sudden, I released that anger and gave in to the spontaneity of the moment. This is when the idea for this poem was born.

When it rains, it will surely pours and cleanse us physically, but also symbolizes the washing of impurities... Nice poem.

Thank you!

You are welcome [-]ericvancewalton.

Hey summer rain, let lose your pain,
Send your drops to touch my window pane,
Show some anger and get insane,
Hey summer rain, let lose your pain,

I have seen you drain through my Lane,
giving happiness, in our hearts and brains
It brought us gain, still you never claim
Hey summer rain, let lose your pain
Hey summer rain let lose your pain...

A dedication to summer rain as we wait for it with open heart but we do the least by not saving water, not planting trees and also destroying nature...

Got inspired reading you lovely poem
And wrote these lines early morning in a flow....

Thanks for sharing great poems :)

Thank you for your wonderful words!

Gorgeous Work!!!!

Much appreciated!

really lovely Eric, I know this experience well

Thank you, Ruth! I'm sure you do living in the Pacific Northwest! : )

Eric, your summer rain poem was beautiful. When I was growing up in San Francisco, I would look out our bay window and watch the rain fall. I always loved how the soft drops would hit the window softly, making me feel comforted when I was alone. Since then, I always loved April, summer and winter showers. I'm glad you had an aha moment and realized that the rain grounded you as it washed away the stress and overwhelming pressure that occurred recently. Like you said, it reminded you of your youth and freedom and joy you felt. Nature often helps us be reminded that we need to slow down and be one with nature. I'm glad you were inspired to write your poem. It really was heart felt and real. Thank-you! I just bought your book from Amazon and can't wait to read it. You should be very, very proud of what you accomplished! It is just the beginning of your creativity journey. Have a stress free week ahead!.......Cabbagepatch

Thank you for your comment! Those childhood memories are so wonderfully melancholy, aren't they? I have similar memories. I grew up in Columbus Ohio in the 1970's and we were in a cycle of very volatile thunderstorms. My father and I would sit on the covered porch and watch all of the storms pass over from West to East. Sometimes the sky would be as dark as night but, somehow, I was never scared. In fact, it was strangely peaceful.

I'm so glad you enjoyed the poem and it struck a chord. Also, thank you so much for buying a copy of the book! If it's not too much trouble would you be willing to write a review on Amazon after you read it? I would greatly appreciate it. I hope you have a good week as well!

You are so welcome! Your childhood memories are wonderful and very much a part of who you are today. It's funny in that some are scared of thunderstorms but there are many like us who enjoy nature's cleansing of the earth. Have you ever heard of Rod McKuen? He is a poet who I grew up with who had deep and profound poems that I loved. In some ways you remind me of him. When I read your book, I will definitely write a review. I already loved what you shared with us so I know your book will be fantastic! Wishing you continued success!

The spontaniety of the moment is a good point. I actually try to see life that way and stay in the moment, whatever im doing right now. That helps to focus and enjoy and not live for tomorrow, followed

That's awesome @steemboys! It's a great thing to strive for, living in the moment, it's not always easy though. Cheers to you and thanks for your comment!

Beautiful, ericvancewalton!

I love summer rains. Like you, they transport me to my childhood. My story is that my father loved to sit under the porch and be part of the rain. My favorite thing was to sit with him. Together we shared gentle showers, lighting storms, trees falling under the pressure from high winds.

To this day, I cannot be in the midst of summer rain without having him by my side...

Thanks for bringing back to life that memory...

Thank you! I did the very same thing with my father. We would sit for hours and watch the storms pass through. It was such a different time and a different place. These days we would very likely be staring at our phones. I'm so glad this sparked a good memory for you.

Isn't it interesting how out of some of our struggles we find beauty in the rain.... beautiful poem.

Yes, most often it's just a slight shift in perception that allows us to see it. Thanks!

Absolutely true

It MIGHT be just me but I do not see your gif working.

I am so happy for you man, your life seems to be going so nicely, it is great to see.

For the record, I was out today for my daily limp.

Flash rain storm and I was soaked and people just looked at me, it is not like I can run anymore LOL.

So 30 mins of limping in the summer rain.

Can we do a poem for that????

The gif must be a large file. It works on my laptop but my phone isn't fast enough for it to appear animated. Thanks, Barry. Life isn't perfect but I'm reaching some long sought after goals and am super grateful for that. Oh no, man! You need to get a good raincoat to keep you dry during your outings. If the weather has been as unpredictable there as It's been here it's difficult to know how to dress. Limping in the Summer Rain...hmmm, that kind of has a ring to it! ; )

The weather has been stupid wet this last few weeks, it is friggin like living in Vancouver or Seattle, I've never seen a summer like this man. We have had more rain, honestly in the last 2 weeks, than most every summer, for a whole summer.

It is great sleeping in the rain in the hammock, I love it, but every day, on and off all day and all night?

Twice limping in the rain this week to get er done, this is enough already LOL

I am honestly so happy for you buddy. Tell the family the Canadastan Crypto Cartel says hi LOL

Thank you, Barry! Yes, man! A little of the gloominess goes a long way. I like it in smaller doses. : ) Always appreciate your comments!

Into each life, a little rain must fall...

Lovely poem, just right for the weather here, too :)

Yes, especially if you're in England or the Upper Midwest (US), it seems. : ) Thanks, Michelle! Will you guys be at SteemFest?

The rain here is exactly the reason we have a 'green and pleasant land' :)

Yes, we're booking everything as soon as we can catch breath!

I hope you and your lovely lady are going to be there again.

'Tis true! : ) We're really hoping we can make it, a minor miracle will need to happen because we have a scheduling conflict but miracles can happen, right? I'd love to see Lisbon. I've heard the barnacles and vino verhde are amazing.

Ah, I hope you can make it too! I do believe in miracles, I do, I do! I do believe in miracles! ;)

We've been to Portugal before, but not the capital. This Steemit thing is certainly getting us about a bit ;)

Yes, I believe in them too after this past year. : ) This would be our first time to Portugal. I've been listening to travel podcasts about it and it sounds like an amazing city. I'll keep thinking positive about it. If we don't see you, you two enjoy your time there!

Well if we don't see you this year, we'll be travelling to USA next year for a road trip! We'll have to try to catch up with you then :)

Water is a powerful way to cleanse yourself. Sometimes we just need to 'wash away' the negative and nature gives us a wonderful way to do so with rain. Lovely poem.

Thank you very much! Yes, I agree, those doldrums build up way too quickly.

Sometimes,Taking a walk under the Rain helps to relieve stress, most especially mental stress. It Can also Help Us to Realize Our Full potentials. Its a good thing it rained while you were walking, It helped you to make up a story from your feeling stress...And its quit a nice Poem!

So very true! Thank you!

This poem is so beautiful. As we grow into adults, we forget the joys and innocence we had as a child. We take everything so literally and become so cold because we let the outside world affect us. The sooner we realize that everything is superficial and happiness comes from within, the sooner we can become that child again and enjoy the little things in life and have the confidence to live it :)

Thank you! Yes, sometimes we must just trust in the universe, surrender to it. So much we think we have control over we really don't. The sooner we realize this, the more at peace we become.

I'm right with you on this I love getting caught in the rain.

But for small droplets of rain
The lake remain still.
I hold a cane pole
And stare at a red and white bobber.

Nice lines, man!

Thanks your poem inspired me, usually when I get caught in the rain I am out fishing.

Everyday we all get older but only some of us also get wiser.

Very well done. You are inspiring many people.

Nice post,

Love seeing all kinds of artists on here.

Very calming, thanks for sharing.

A very poignant poem. Tropical rains are quite common where I lived in the island of Borneo. The rain nourishes not only the soil but our souls as well. And we can always look forward to a beautiful rainbow after the rain. A fellow poet here. I would be most honored if you can take a look at my poems and give a critique.
