this path there are
lots of little places
that seem to
transcend reality,
and, if only
for a moment,
ease the harshness
of this world,
cause time to slow,
and the fragile blossom
of bliss to bloom,
sometimes we tell ourselves we'd
trade all of our tomorrows
to stay there forever,
walks us to a moment
where we gaze quietly
into the mirror
of our own reflection
only to realize
that our choices,
for better or worse,
have transformed
us into something
quite different from
who we once were
and in that moment
our eyes either
shine with boundless joy
or convey the solemn sorrows
of deep regret,
can’t be kept forever,
and eventually, each
of them are etched
right there upon us,
like a effigy, for the
whole world to see
and we have
no choice but to admit,
this is me, yes,
this is me.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.
These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. Poetry taking a great look within, thoughtful words to consume.

Thank you Joan!
The poet said: "one can only live forward". What we were yesterday is in the past. Permanence is perhaps an illusion of time. Like trees, our bark is full of cracks, its branches and roots give proof of our existence. Perhaps we are a tree, surely giving fruit and shade to our own, but we can also be the small flame of a candle that illuminates the world in a small way and gradually fades away.
You are also, although I do not know you personally, a special being! May your light always shine in the universe, Eric. Beautiful Sunday
I appreciate that, Nancy. As I was writing this I was thinking about how people's life choices begin to show on their faces as we age -- life choices, how we deal with stress, how honest we are with ourselves, how we treat others, it all begins to show for the world to see. I hope you enjoyed your weekend!
For some fortuitous reason, I came to your poem. I feel totally identified with everything. But this last part was the most profound. I've had a hard time lately, and this poem has been a sip of tranquility and healing for my spirit. Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you for the kind words and I'm glad it helped you in some small way!
Yes, yes it is. I knew I'd like this from the title, and I wasn't wrong. <3
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hello dear friend @ericvancewalton Good day
Beautiful composition, I love how you write
Without a doubt, it is our choices that have transformed us into something
I appreciate that you have shared this beautiful poetry
Have a nice day
Hello! I appreciate your kind words. Enjoy your weekend my friend.
I know this. Not only for a moment, but for long term too. When I have a bird (either a Harris's hawk or a falcon), he/she gives me the biggest love, enjoyment, happiness and peace of this world. My only real enjoyment, happiness and love in this world.
I can relate. I never realized how much companionship and love our beagle gave us until he was gone. It's not that we didn't appreciate him when he was hear but rather underestimated his contributions to our family. There's a real void in our home now but we refuse to get another dog until we're done with our overseas travels. Us being away from the animal for such long periods of time wouldn't be fair to the dog.
True, it can't be kept forever. I have a secret for my friend, I have to tell him sooner or later, but I don't know when 🙄
I hope you can find the words!
It is a fact that if a person who is looking back at his life, he will never be successful in the future, so it is better not to remember the past. Whenever a person stays in the memories of the past time or keeps thinking about that time, he will never be successful in the coming time, so it is better that a person should not remember the past time at all and the coming time. Should be happy for.
True!
Thanks.
I couldn't help but ponder on this, whatever decision we make always have an effect on us and its so sad that we cannot just sit on the fence and do nothing we must always have to make a choice.
Thanks for sharing this great piece Eric.
You're welcome, I'm glad you enjoyed it. This becomes more and more true the older we get. Once people approach middle age their decision-making patterns are pretty well set and their appearance really does reflect the person they've consciously become.
Beautiful poetry about life. We are very complex individuals. And time is something that will change a person. Have a nice day, Eric.
Thank you Eliana! I hope you have a good day as well!
Transiting and enjoying your lyrics through your exquisite and heartfelt poem is an honor. A poem is full of feelings and experiences. We are change and transmutation, nothing stops, and everything transforms perennially. I often wander in my musings, with nostalgia and longing I would like to go back and return moments, perhaps stay there in the parsimony of the pleasant. But they will only be there in what I have lived and walked, in the depths of the memories, that will assert day by day, that I am already another, and it is time to continue the existential journey, until the last breath.
Until another time ✨
Well said!
Wow! This poem is simply amazing! I am fascinated by the way you describe life's journey and self-reflection so beautifully and deeply. Every line is so meaningful and full of emotion, touching my heart strongly.
You managed to capture beautiful moments that can make time stop and open the door to happiness. However, then you wisely describe how our changes and life habits shape us into different people than before.
I really like the way you convey the message about self-acceptance and facing reality honestly. This poem inspires me to appreciate every moment in life more and embrace myself with all its strengths and weaknesses.
You are an excellent writer and I look forward to reading more of your work in the future. 🙏📖👏
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

This is a beautiful poem. Great piece
Thank you.
You’re welcome ☺️
Thoughtful words, Every word is deep and has a lot of meanings.
Thanks!
Cool poem. To see a joyful person in the reflection, you need to do everything so that you can respect yourself. If you understand what needs to be done for this, then you do not live in vain.
Thanks. I agree! To like that reflection takes honesty, forgiveness, and kindness.
Beautiful poem, it was really excellent.
