Where the Pavement Ends (An Original Poem)

in #poetry6 days ago (edited)

Agents and architects,
masterfully stoking fear and hate
then unleashing their unwitting
army in the direction of their choosing,

Drawing imaginary lines in the sand,
building silos instead of bridges,
stacking stones into stories
far too many are eager to read,

To escape their conscription
we must have the courage
to experience a world
opposite our own—
be willing to walk barefoot
on the prickly path
where the pavement ends,

We must be brave
in ways in which we speak
in echoes where silence reigns,
trade the great comforts
of our certainty for the
sanctity of the unknown.

Take me away from the world,
this world, where words
fall woefully short of my reality,
where things unfold beyond
our understanding but
no one ever bothers to ask why,
where stories of pain
and stories of hope
are written in ink
that never seems to dry.

Poetry should move us, it should change us, it should glitch our brains, shift our moods to another frequency. Poetry should evoke feelings of melancholy, whimsy, it should remind us what it feels like to be in love, or cause us to think about something in a completely different way. I view poetry, and all art really, as a temporary and fragile bridge between our world and a more pure and refined one. This is a world we could bring into creation if enough of us believed in it. This book is ephemera, destined to end up forgotten, lingering on some dusty shelf or tucked away in a dark attic. Yet the words, they will live on in memory. I hope these words become a part of you, bubble up into your memory when you least expect them to and make you feel a little more alive.

Most of us have experienced a moment of perfect peace at least once in our lives. In these moments we lose ourselves and feel connected to everything. I call these mindful moments. Words can’t describe how complete they make us feel.

These moments are usually fragile, evaporating in seconds. What if there was a way to train your mind to experience more of them? It’s deceptively easy and requires nothing more than a subtle shift in mindset. My new book, Mindful Moments, will teach you to be much more content despite the chaos and imperfect circumstances continuing to unfold around you. Finding that you are a poet, @ericvancewalton, was a nice surprise. I respect and appreciate what I believe you are saying through this one. This stands out:

"... building silos instead of bridges, ..."

As the "Agents and architects" continue their relentless efforts focused on dividing us, rather than uniting us. It is certainly not an accident, but very intentional.

Thinking of your recent post about being a Tesla owner, as an easy one of many, many examples sadly all around us.

Thank you. The vandalism of Teslas across the world was one of the issues I was thinking of when I wrote this, but there are so many other examples as well.

It is very easy to walk on already made paths. The difficult thing is to make new paths, new directions. Today, many are followers, dream buyers. But who is capable of getting out of the way and saying: I don't want that. A thoughtful poem on this Friday in March. Hugs, Eric

True Nancy! In the beginning it's so much easier to let others do the thinking for us and a lot of folks in the world never graduate beyond that. Thank you! I hope you've enjoyed the weekend....they go so incredibly fast.

I just had someone reach out to me in Discord the other day talking about how they didn't realize just how bad the US has gotten. It's honestly a little scary to think that people outside the US don't think it is as bad as it is in general.

I'm getting the same picture from talking to friends throughout the world about the current state of America. News outlets outside of US don't seem to be conveying the full story, or maybe they aren't delving deeply enough. If the theory is true that the Associated Press is controlling most of the foreign media outlets then they could be tailoring stories for the regions. Such strange times we're living in. I feel like the curtain is being parted.

It's interesting because I see a fair number of mixed opinions about what is going on. I would expect most people would be shocked, but then some seem to think it's all okay. I'm also realizing that some of the veiled bigotry isn't just isolated to us here. It's rampant in various forms globally.

So many people are trapped in stories written by others, never questioning, never stepping off the path. But real freedom starts where the pavement ends. Gotta be brave enough to walk it, love it love it love it.

A lot of people, I'd say a great majority, are ideologically captured to certain degree. Thank you!

you're most welcome

..written in ink
that never seems to dry.

Because pain and hope are always in our life.

...and the agents and architects never stop writing their scripts.....

Minutes ago, I was down but reading your poem, I feel some inner strength in me
