Welcome to Trumpistan, Where The Glorious Leader Can Pardon HIMSELF.

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

If Donald Trump's use of 'logic', at times, weren't absurd enough already - he now shows he sees nothing wrong with claiming the position that he can 'pardon himself' for things he does wrong... Sounds very 'democratic' doesn't it? No, not at all - it is the claim of a dictator who doesn't give a shit about the will of the people.

trump's best democracy

What does it say about someone who will attempt to excuse themselves from the very rules they are appointed to oversee? This kind of situation is like a fireman saying it's ok for him to burn houses down on his day off or a soldier saying it's ok to kill innocent people because... authority.

Yet here we are, as the BBC reported, Trump has tweeted that he may effectively rely on the ability for him to pardon himself if needed!

US President Donald Trump has said he has the "absolute right" to pardon himself in the Russia inquiry, while insisting he has done nothing wrong.

He echoed the argument his lawyers made in a January memo to the US special counsel leading the investigation.

In his tweet, Mr Trump once again lashed out at the inquiry into whether his election campaign had colluded with Russia or obstructed justice.

Constitutional scholars are divided on whether a president can pardon himself.

While he is saying that he doesn't need to do this, he is basically saying that he COULD do it and so is effectively sticking his middle finger up at the legal system and human law. Sounds familiar right?

Saying that 'constitutional scholars are divided on whether a president can pardon himself' is like saying 'constitutional lawyers are divided on whether we should allow absolute corruption and criminality to hold the reigns of the nation'... But hey, it's been clear for a long time that many want exactly that.

Wishing you well,

In the United States there is a House of Representative, a Representative who has a special right to investigate the errors of State Officials including the President, the special right to include or induce allegations that he has committed a major error and may lead to dismissal. However, is Trump really making a big mistake?

Personally I see Trump as a scale of Berlusconi: is it all a joke? 🤔🤪

They are peas from the same pod, yes!

Did he make Italy great again? If so I missed it!

Of course not, @funbobby51!
Basically he changed the laws to save his ass.
Of the Italian people, he's always screwed... like all politicians, on the other hand!

when did Trump change the laws to save his ass?

I'm talking about mr. berlusconi, @funbobby51! 😀

This whole thing is laughable. It was ruled back after Watergate when Nixon actually considered pardoning HIMSELF, also; that it could not be done. But you're right, there is ZERO RESPECT OR CONCERN FOR CONSTITUTIONALISM IN D.C.

This is crazy. All these politicians are into "their legacy." What kind of legacy would this leave him?

If he does do this, the next time I get pulled over I'm just going to say, "Save yourself the time of writing that up, officer, I'm just pardoning myself."

Yeah but it's presidents who have the right of pardoning other people (for some reason I still don't understand).

In Venezuela, there was a coup attempt in 1992. Hugo Chávez was jailed for it together with a bunch of murderous military men who assassinated a lot of people and massacred some others. Calderas (another president) then pardoned Chávez, then Chávez won the 1998 presidential elections and utterly destroyed the country.

It is part of our Constitution that Presidents can pardon people. I think it is a weakness, and I think it should be amended to specifically prohibit pardons for a pretty good list of serious offenses, and to make it clear no POTUS can ever pardon himself.

Presidents have the right to pardon people so they can let little old ladies out of prison who are serving life sentences for non violent offences.

Well, that's what the cops have been doing for decades anyway!

Of course the president has not actually been charged with anything despite this 2 year witch hunt.

Trump cannot go a week without creating scene.. Lol

But one thing I dislike about him but end up making him a standout president is that he don't seek anybody's opinion before he makes his decisions... The only president that rule America on twitter.. Lol

I still love him anyway, he has done some things that really make sense. Though, the way he achieve his objectives at time are not very correct and some of them are even questionable...

@ura-soul.. If you are a trump supporter, don't mind.. I think, He is joker... !!! Lol...

Hahahahaha, just wow, I hadn't seen this. There is so much absurd stuff going on in the US that I'm not sure anymore about how serious some people are about things. Trump got on his throne with a fanfare of memes and has been memeing around with his presidency ever since he took it.

Maybe it's dark humour, but I love all this drama, even though it means that everything we work for is being destroyed by the personal interests of the few. It's still a hilarious case of nonsense.

It's all fun and games until someone gets thrown into a secret underground torture facility! :/

It's easy to pull off PR moves here and there that supporters will latch on to. The real test is the total effect that results from all decisions.

So he didn't do a good thing by letting her out?

I am stating that to assess the integrity of a president it is necessary to examine much more than just one case of their actions. Most politicians kiss babies during their election campaign at some point.. But it doesn't stop them killing them via drone attacks later.

Very beautiful post
Thanks for the sharing post

it has become a bizarro world as of late...

I think the key factor with this guy is that he is a reality tv star and still playing a part.

he is a showman that's for sure.

It's too bad these same "constitutional scholars" can't see that the document has been trampled on for a long time.

Its reality tv at its best. The only problem is, he is really the president and his statements are really not just part of a screenplay.

...And even if he did, the Republicans in power would march behind him in lock step, and 40% of the country would call us "liberal crybabies" who can't get over losing the election. The cognitive dissonance in this country is deafening.

"human law"?
Is there any like, actual law against it?
That which is not forbidden is allowed.
