Have you done things in the past that you would like to never remember? Perhaps you harmed people with your words or actions. Perhaps you have made bad financial decisions, which have caused you to live in debt for years. Perhaps you have neglected friendships and/or relationships; much worse, perhaps you have taken advantage of them. Perhaps you neglected a good job, wasted your education, or abused your own body with vices and now you are paying the consequences.

Quizá has descuidaste tus amistades y/o relaciones o peor todavía – quizá te has aprovechado de ellas.

In the best of cases, after making mistakes, we reconsider and correct our ways, but in the worst of cases, our foolishness has led us or is about to lead us to ruin. Surely you have heard people say, if I could go back in time I would do things differently. Well, welcome to reality, that is not possible! The successes and mistakes we made in the past are just that, part of the past. I grant that in a very valid and real sense many of us are still paying the price for past mistakes. Unfortunately, it is so and there is no way to escape from it. But in another sense – just as valid and real – our mistakes are part of our present and this does not necessarily have to be a bad thing. We can profit from them!

My message today is a message of hope. As horrible as our mistakes may have been, we have one of two options: 1) to consume ourselves in the misery of our past’s remorse or 2) to reconsider, amend and build a better future. That is why I believe that although the consequences of our past mistakes are with us today, we can use them for our benefit. You heard right, we have the power to learn from our mistakes. It is like practicing an emotional and mental Aikido. That is, use the lessons we have learned from our mistakes to our advantage.

Life is short, and if you are over 35; you will agree with me that it seems time begins to pass faster than before. We cannot turn back time to change the past or the decisions already made, but we can take advantage of our experiences to live better in the present and perhaps thus achieve a better future. It doesn't matter if you did not invest the money wisely or if you overspent. Today you can still find ways to change your spending habits, pay off your debts, and save and invest wisely next time. If you offended someone today you have the opportunity to apologize and next time think before you speak or do anything. If you neglected your studies when you were young, today you can educate yourself by reading the right books, signing up for evening or weekend courses at your local University, or online.

Without a doubt, it is unfortunate when we make mistakes and especially when we harm our loved ones, but there is always time to make amends. Here is a summary of the steps that have worked – although I am still working on it – in my life.

  • Feeling shame or remorse for our mistakes is valid and perhaps even healthy, but what is not healthy is wallowing forever in shame for ourselves. That will paralyze me and won't let me grow.
  • If I've harmed someone, I ask for forgiveness and make restitution if necessary.
  • I reflect on the following questions: a) What can I learn from this mistake/failure? b) How will I put what I have learned into practice next time?
  • I Seek help – professional if necessary
  • I try not to be my worst enemy - I forgive myself
  • I'm aware of the present and I'm thankful.
  • Si he dañado a alguien, pido perdón y restituyo si es necesario.

Yes, owning up to our mistakes is healthy, and positive, but the process hurts! 🙈 Nevertheless, that is better than living a life full of lies, denial, and pain. No Sir, better learn and not make the same mistake twice! 😁

    Best regards, my friend!

Perhaps you write very close to what I think I want to write myself and want to read. I think you should continue. Yes here a lot of people read only about cryptocurrency, but after all money is not the most important thing in our lives. But such thoughts, in my opinion, are very important! I agree with everything that is written!

Have they done things in their past that you would like to never remember?

Oh, there were a lot of them, just like everyone else, I guess.🤣

    Great post :-)

I agree 100% with you, @beeber ! Thank you for the encouragement! 😊

Mistakes happen and it's often unavoidable in life. What we can do is to learn from these mistakes in order to make better choices in the future.

Sadly, some people repeat the same mistake while others live with depressive thoughts because of a mistake they made sometime ago. The steps you listed are top notch.

    I came here vis DreeemPort

to reconsider, amend and build a better future.

We have power to be better and amend our ways from past mistakes, so we don´t make such mistake in the present which would in turn affect our future. Though we make mistakes that we regret of today, but the truth is that, mistakes are in a way beneficial to us because we learn from them and work towards being the best version. I came via @dreemport

Very true, very true dear, @princessbusayo 👍

It is good to encounter like-minded people! I found you also through @dreemport Great, isn't it?

Yes, it is. Thank you too 😎

Excellent writeup @acgalarza! It is very valid, although in the area of finances, that may or may not work. I had changed my ways of dealing with my finances, and paid everything off. However, it seems that when you do that, something always comes up lol. Buy a car with a 3 year warranty. On the day after the warranty expires, something major breaks hahaha!
Add to that the taxation, and they do not give people breaks, they take more and more, which makes it more difficult to obtain things later; most just get deeper in debt.
Oh, and one more thing: your formatting is mint perfect, and the selection of the image was dead on!
This post was obtained through Dreemport.

Expiring warranties!? I know exactly what you mean!!! 🤣

Yes, it is true, in life, there are always unforeseen events and against them, we cannot do much. Recalling a famous phrase from the movie Forest Gump - "sh... happens." 😊 The truth is that unforeseen events occur, not only in the area of finances but in all areas of life.

I see it this way. In life, there are things that are under my control and that I can handle for better or for worse. On the other hand, there are things that no matter what I do will always be out of my control. It's not easy, but my advice is always to focus on the former. Being pro-active instead of reactive as much as I can - without being a control freak, of course!

Many thanks for your compliments, @jamerussell - they mean a lot to me. I will never forget that you have helped me and encouraged me to improve towards producing quality content. I'll will keep working!

    ¡Saludos, amigo!

Absolutely! Our mistakes are opportunities for us to become more of who we were meant to be! Painful lessons that can be redeemable! 🦏 Thank you for this message of hope this morning!

Thank you for sharing with us your reflection! Yes, if we choose correctly our mistakes are wonderful opportunities to grow as human beings. The process hurts, but it's worth it!

    Best regards!

This is so true. Most times we tend to live in our mistakes for a very long time thereby shutting ourselves away to see the bright side of life on general and even making us hate our own self which is a very wrong way of going about out mistakes.

This is a beautiful write-up sir, thank you for sharing this with us❣️.

Yes, very often the hardest thing to do is to forgive ourselves for the errors of the past. In those cases talking about it with good friends - even with a professional, depending on the issue - can be beneficial.

Thank you for reading and for your encouragement, @hopestylist Stay strong!

    Yeah, that's a good idea.

It's my pleasure reading through friend ❣️.

I feel like mistakes are essential for growth and advancements, you can't do it right, if you haven't been wrong.

Hopefully, we don't do too much wrong to do right, right? 😁 But yes, you are right, we can learn something from our darkest hours!

Hopefully, we don't but if we do, we are still going to be fine.

    Correct! 🙂👍

I believe we only have mistakes if we don't learn from them, then they are lessons and life is meant to be lived so we will learn continuously:)

I agree! The biggest mistake is not to learn from them - and I might add - never repeat them again!

aha yes don't repeat them again, very true!!

This is good advice :) We just need to realize that we can grow, so we won't repeat those mistakes.

We just need to realize that we can grow, so we won't repeat those mistakes.

Yes, to err is human, but should try not to repeat the same mistake. That would be plain stupid.

Thank you for your compliment, @wrestlingdesires ! Best regards!

I feel like a lot of people need to see this post. We make some mistakes and instantly drown in them forgetting that it doesn't necessarily define us and we need to forgive ourselves too.

    Good evening, @blezyn !

...We make some mistakes and instantly drown in them forgetting that it doesn't necessarily define us and we need to forgive ourselves too.

Some mistakes sting more than others, but if we deal correctly with them, you are right, they don't have to define us. And you are right about not being able to forgive ourselves. That's one of the hardest things to do. But we the help of our friends we have better chances.

    Best regards!

I would use #thoughtfuldailypost as a tag aswell

Hi @brittandjosie and thank you for the tip! Should the tag be part of the post itself (for example at the bottom) or at the top in the Tags section? Have a great day!!!

    @acgalarza

Good morning! Many ways to incorporate TAGS... Some write them in the actual post... some use them in the TAG selection area... and then you have TAG specific communities. This also depends on what "front-end" you are using; when posting via PeakD you have the option to use 10 TAGS.

So then... my TAGS could be #thoughtfuldailypost, or #hive-109288. Conversely, you could also post in my actual community, and have the 10 TAGS free. Here is my community:
