RE: When you want to test a new 3D Printer and just say YOLO!

What parameters more specifically ?

  • Temperature
  • Retraction Length, Speed
  • Printing Speed
  • Extrusion Flow
  • Overlaps

What do you like and what annoys you in Cura/S3D ?

Ah yes, the second z motor and lead screw are needed, otherwise you have small layer shifts even if you have a good quality lead screw. I have the problem on the Velleman K8200. May be take a few spare couplers in case of mistake.

Sort:
  • 235C
  • 6mm 40mm/s
  • 40mm/s
  • 1.00
  • 15%

I like Cura a lot, but it doesn't have custom supports and I was looking for better supports that come off easier and with less damage.

S3D, I don't like the fact it is the only paid slicer and is $150 and they went forever without updates. That right there is a turn-off. But after using it, my problems are it doesn't seem to do much different than any other slicer except custom supports, it UI is awful, doesn't support printing directly to octoprint, I like that it has repair functionality but so does Slic3r. I'll probably end up switching back to Cura or using Slic3r.

Ah ok, it is very similar to my PETG parameters for my CTC:

  • 235 to 240C (depends on the color even it is the same brand)
  • 6 to 6.5 @ 80mm/s for retraction (long ugly bowden)
  • 30 to 40mm/s depends on the layer height
  • 1.0
  • 15% to 25% overlap but I have something different from Cura/S3D

The repair feature works well in Netfabb (bought by Autodesk).

I will poke you when my slicer will be ready for Beta test.
By the way which platform are you running ?
