I got my new printer in and have been trying to tweak it and dial it in. Having a problem I can't seem to resolve but otherwise, I am getting fantastic prints.
One of the greatest torture tests of a 3D printer is the 3D Benchy. It is a well designed 3D model that has been professionally designed with difficult attributes to print on a 3D printer. It is also a very cool looking model and fun to print in many different colors. For many people, it is the first print they do, if not it usually the 20mm calibration cube.
This is my first print, while very nice, I am a big fan of go big or go home.
This would have been a really great print for time-lapse, but unfortunately, I don't have the mount required for this printer printed out.
Since we all printing money with the current SBD prices, I figured I'd do so as well.
There is another model I like to print out when testing things. It has similar demands of the benchy and instead of a 2 hour or so print, it is only 18 minutes.
I tend to print little Marvin a lot, as my son wants it in every color I own. I also did the go big or go home with Marvin.
My son has already claimed the boat for himself. :(
Looks like I'll be printing another soon. Maybe I'll go bigger!

Wow looks fairly smooth
PETG is really nice, it prints with less layer outline and with a nice shine. It's also stronger and can withstand much higher temps, but it is prone to stringing, but I know how to get rid of most of the stringing issues.
Unfortunately, it is hard to get PETG in many colors or even in stock.
Hi, correct quality for a start.
Already some tweaking at the slicer level ?
Did you change the firmware ?
Yeah, I tweak the slicer a lot. I have also been bouncing between Cura and S3D.
No, stock firmware right now. Thinking about doing the CR-10S upgrade by buying the control board, filament sensor, and everything but the second z motor/lead screw.
What parameters more specifically ?
What do you like and what annoys you in Cura/S3D ?
Ah yes, the second z motor and lead screw are needed, otherwise you have small layer shifts even if you have a good quality lead screw. I have the problem on the Velleman K8200. May be take a few spare couplers in case of mistake.
I like Cura a lot, but it doesn't have custom supports and I was looking for better supports that come off easier and with less damage.
S3D, I don't like the fact it is the only paid slicer and is $150 and they went forever without updates. That right there is a turn-off. But after using it, my problems are it doesn't seem to do much different than any other slicer except custom supports, it UI is awful, doesn't support printing directly to octoprint, I like that it has repair functionality but so does Slic3r. I'll probably end up switching back to Cura or using Slic3r.
Ah ok, it is very similar to my PETG parameters for my CTC:
The repair feature works well in Netfabb (bought by Autodesk).
I will poke you when my slicer will be ready for Beta test.
By the way which platform are you running ?
Windows
"I don't care how old I am, I will 3D print a freakin' boat right now!!!" :D Amazing! Thank you for sharing! I would love to try a 3D printer and make a lot of monkey business with it! What you made looks so cool!
I want to put a motor in one and have it driving around our pool. I don't think I can get the weight right to make it work though. I can print on 16" tall.
This sounds like SO much fun!! :D If you do so, please share with us Mr. MacGyver! I would love to see it driving around your pool hahaha!
Wow this is awesome ! I definitely want to get on of thes bad boys. I mostly use Rhino 3D. What program do you use ?
Now you don't need to go Xmas shopping this year you can just make it in Santas craft shop haha
I use Slic3r, Cura, and now testing S3D. S3D is supposed to be the crown jewel and only paid one I know of, but I am not impressed with it at all. I primarily use Cura and Slic3r (Prusa Edition). Slic3r has better results once you know how to use it, but it looks like ass.
Good quality prints. I'm looking forward to the day the price on 3D printers that can do full color comes down.
3-4 color is possible, full color is a long time away.
My main issue with 3D printers is the smell. Do they still stink while they work? Also, that looks fun.
It smells kind of like maple syrup, but I only have one filament that really is noticeable and it smells exactly like maple syrup. It's fun printing that one as it smells good. I only print PLA/PETG so there is no danger with the fumes. ABS and some other materials you have to use an enclosure with filter and vents.
Maple syrup! NOMZ!
I don't know what my friend was printing with, but it smelled awful. It was a couple of years ago and I hope I wasn't inhaling something bad.
Likely ABS or something, that stuff is toxic. It's also a pain in the ass to print with.
PLA is made from corn, PETG is the stuff water bottles are made of.
Damn. Good thing I didn't stay there long!

Nice printings! I have to mount my Reprap i3 printer :)
Oh wow what a wondeful 3d printer love it Start followinf you :)
can you print heart shape object through this printer...
We got one in college when they first came out. I think we printed a wrench and a salt shaker and that was it.
The electrical engineers used it to print a cover for their robot which was the coolest use I saw for it in college.
Nice print man!
What printer are you the proud owner of?
I have an Anet A8 heavily modified and a CR-10 slightly modified. I am likely going to get a Prusa MK3 and build my own 400mmx400mmx600mm printer.
Epic! I like how you mod it to do bigger prints=D
Mark, do you know @fathin-shihab?
She makes really cool 3D (steemit) stuff! :)
Yes, I saw her post the other day for the first time.

The surface looks very smooth. It is a product made by FDM method, but the performance of your printer seems to be quite good.
It's PETG which tends to have fantastic lines and a nice shine. Harder to print, and hard to get in many colors but the results are really nice.
Oh, Thanks! I don`t know about PETG. It looks so nice.
