We use an Oil heater, and space electric space heaters, we do have a fire place and some wood for emergencies. Not long ago we had to pay for every byte of internet, but someone started providing unlimited, so AT&T, and GCI, and the other telco's needed to start providing cheaper service contracts.
That is some Dr.Evil level stuff right there. Un-freaking-believable ... I'm glad to hear that a competitor showed up and lit a fire under their bum to heat things up a bit (pun intended).
Regarding emergency heating, I have a few kerosene heaters laying around here just in case the power goes out mid-winter. There's also a fireplace here where I can toss a few logs of wood (or pieces of furniture) if need be ...
