When you are new to Hive voting can be an exciting activity. Many veterans prefer to continue manual voting and reading post.
If you are like many Hivians- or myself in the past, your voting behaviour may be akin to handing out candy on Halloween; candy for you, and you, candies for everyone!
Excellent content on Hive is everywhere that we turn. It’s easy to get pulled into a parade of reading, viewing, commenting and voting. One post leads to another, and another, then just one more….. and another.
We are aware that our voting power (HP) depletes and refills each day, but what does that mean?
This post will explain to you the simple dynamics of voting and the best way to go about it. To get the most out of your Hive blog activities, voting mindfulness is important.
Don’t fret, voting mindfulness is exceptionally clear to understand and easy to do.

- You have 100% voting power that replenishes by 20% every 24 hours
-Ideally, it’s best not to let HP go below 80%
-10 votes at 100% per day will produce the highest value rewards to those that you vote.
-If you exceed 10x100% votes the reward given out is of lesser value (and HP falls below 80%)
-When you continue to vote after the 10 times at 100% all previous rewards given out will automatically decrease
-You don’t have to give out only 10 votes per day- as long as the mathematical percentage doesn’t exceed 1000% your given rewards will maintain their best value
-Keep track of what you are doing. Grab a note pad or digital note pad and keep notes of the support you share
I Still Have Hive Power, Shouldn’t I Use It?
That’s really up to you. Personally, I aim to stick to using 1000% maximum. Here’s why.
Voting within the 1000% margin ensures that rewards shared are at their highest value. Anything after will process less and less value to those Content Creators that you support. Additionally, all past rewards decrease if you go over 1000%. The depletion progressively falls until you might notice that voting value reaches 0.
Again, only 20% HP refills in a 24hr duration. If your blog HP falls too low you could be waiting days until 100% HP is available and votes return to the highest value.
You work hard to climb up the ladder. Remember when you were happy that your support was worth 0.001 then 0.10, and maybe even 1.5? Over voting sucks away that stat you were excited to see.
It’s up to you if you would like to HP drain, but I recommend mindfulness and tracking.
