I write controversial because nothing is as innocent as things seem. For the humanistic reasons for pursuing ectogenesis, I see the tech as a miracle. Outside of that, a very cautious approach is warranted lest the darker possibilities of the technology comes to fruition.

True, but just like cloning, if a group is determined and well financed enough, what will stop them? I think the best approach might be to proceed, but only after laws (as global as possible) are firmly in place about the usage and how far to take the research?

True. Safeguards for the tech are warranted before moving forward on the research. You are right in pointing out wealth and resources. There wouldn’t be much to stop someone.
It's unfortunate, but we are already fully capable of destroying this planet. Going back to what it was like several hundred years ago simply isn't an option.
