Beautiful story. I love stories like this! It's much easier to accept such a context when we are talking about animals though, the same principles are much harder to apply to a human, i think we feel that because science as told us we're smarter, that must mean we are much more responsible for our actions and thoughts? True to some degree, but we are all governed by our subconscious, i suppose we have the capacity to realise this, and this is our advantage. But how many people really do such introspective work?
I was moved to tears when i first read about Ubuntu-
UBUNTU- IN CERTAIN REGIONS OF SOUTH AFRICA WHEN SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING WRONG, HE IS TAKEN TO THE CENTER OF THE VILLAGE AND SURROUNDED BY HIS TRIBE FOR TWO DAYS WHILE THEY SPEAK OF ALL THE GOOD HE HAS DONE. THEY BELIEVE EACH PERSON IS GOOD YET SOMETIMES WE MAKE MISTAKES WHICH IS REALLY A CRY FOR HELP. THEY UNITE IN THIS RITUAL TO ENCOURAGE THE PERSON TO RECONNECT WITH HIS TRUE NATURE. THE BELIEF IS THAT UNITY AND AFFIRMATION HAVE MORE POWER TO CHANGE BEHAVIOR THAN SHAME AND PUNISHMENT. THIS IS KNOWN AS UBUNTU. HUMANITY TOWARDS OTHERS A BEAUTIFUL RITUAL INDEED! UBUNTU! I FORGIVE YOU 🙏
This just makes so much sense to me.
@myindigoinsight thanks for your comment and taking the time to read my article :) Yes , while the construct may be applicable i to hoomans, unfortunately it can be far more difficult to execute in real world scenarios. this is because we are far more deceptive in our interactions with one another, when poeple say "how are you ?" we usually respond with "fine" or "good" instinctively, when we really are having a bad time. this is not deliberate but a conditioned response.
we have been conditioned to hide our thoughts, feelings and emotions as it is not socially acceptable to be open with one another, it can be considered rude to say what you really think, politically incorrect etc. We design rules of engagement with one another which mask our true selves. with ineffective communication progress can be difficult, with misdirection it can be near impossible. Adding to this the emotional value and reactions and it is a mine field, lolz.
Yes we do have the ability realize these behaviors and factors within ourselves and make changes , however, our ego plays a big part in avoiding this realization. Part of the hooman condition is that we dont like to feel or think we are wrong.... so we lie to ourselves to avoid cognitive dissonance.... and the cycle continues....
ah yes far too conditioned to hide how we truly feel!!!! My latest blog is about my battle with depression & anxiety and is a real life personal account of what you just said basically!
Animals are free from that conditioning though, you are correct. My cat is so lovable one minute, then in the next she can swipe at you as if to say bugger off i am not in the mood anymore! And there is no filtering of that process, oh i might offend the hooooman, or i may get punished, it just is. We can't be that way and be in line with social etiquette at the same time. How sad eh?!!!
all we can do is the best we can to represent ourselves as authentically as possible, the societal structures may discourage us from doing this, to hide our emotions and make things far more complex, but we do have the choice.... but it can be a very difficult thing to do
