It’s Okay Not to Be Okay

Society says you should be always happy, and that showing your sadness is a sign of weakness.it has been branded into our brains to think that it’s not okay to feel depressed, unwanted, lonely.

Have you ever met a truly happy person? A person that has been happy their entire life? It’s practically impossible. There is no way that someone can never feel sadness. One day you feel on top of the world, the next you are down.We all have good and bad days. No one can be perfectly happy all of the time, that is not human. You might think that someone else has a great life, but they could just be putting up a front. Some may feel sadness more than others, but what I’m trying to say is that it’s normal to feel sad. It’s okay. Life isn’t easy for anyone..

A lot of you may be thinking, “But sadness and depression are different.” I know, trust me, I know. I’ve been there before. I’ve been depressed and it’s hard to see the truth when depression clouds your eyes. I thought that no one understood me, that I was all alone in this world. Ironically, a lot of other people feel the same way. So, we’re alone together, in a sense.

Maybe one day we all will open our eyes and see the brokenness around us. Maybe one day we will finally open our hearts to those around us and lend a shoulder to others. Maybe one day we will accept each other for who we are and for who we will become. Maybe one day we won’t only learn to love others, but we’ll learn to love ourselves.Remember that you are here for a reason, and the world would not be the same without you.

Truth never damages a cause that is just.

In my experience, depression and sadness provided me with the gift of understanding... the gift to understand the process that my friends and family go through sometimes. Depression is something you need to feel and dive deep into to understand. Obviously its never a choice, but when it happens I like to see it as an opportunity.
