Rifling through the stack of headshots, Sandy stopped. She pulled the image out and shouted, “She is perfect!” turning the picture toward Barry.

With a glance, Barry scanned the shot and muttered “She’s black.” The look of expectation quickly disappeared from his face.

“Ah ah aaah… African American” Terrance chimed in.

“Oh, come on Barry. Her name is Serenity. Make-up could do it. Take another look.” Sandy ran to the other end of the table with Serenity’s photo.

“No Sandy. She’s black.”

“Remember the Annie episode of Boston Legal? That ended up in court. It’s too much like that.” Terrance chimed in again.

Sandy glanced toward Terrance with her ‘be quiet’ look. She regretted hiring him. He was always adding his two cents, usually having only a penny worth of substance.

Barry took the photo from Sandy’s outstretched hand. “You know the time we are in.” he said. “Make-up won’t work. We cannot white face a black child and Wednesday is ghostly white. It is not politically correct. God only knows what type of publicity this could garner, and I am not willing to take the risk. I agree with you on the look. Your spot on Sandy. But please keep looking.”

“I agree.” Terrance muttered.
