I'm in favour of using robots for jobs humans can do - but, I think that it is only fair that we hit them with massive taxes so that we can afford to pay a living wage to all those out of a job.
Perhaps an association could be formed to stand up for the right of robots and demand that they be paid at least as much as a human would have been paid, less the amortization of the purchase price.
That way, nobody would resent the robots - who would or could become tax-paying citizens.
As for the big M, I have not even had a cup of coffee from them for many years - since I saw a video called Food.inc - it was disgusting and, oddly, M did not contest what was shown.
I used to work at burger king for about 4 years working my way up to managment and I saw stuff that in all fairness would put most people off their food for a long time. when the food hygine inspecter came around to do his checks he said to me that in fact the kitchen that I was working in was five star and there was nothing wrong with the practices. I saw some videos on mds and I know what your saying but my point above is that it happens in alot of places, we just don't know its happening.
I would like to see robot do jobs that put humans at risk, like fire fighters, armed police jobs then no lifes would be lost. but for the sake of something serving me my food. well I would rather have interaction with a person who can get my order right. lol
I am a pensioner, so although I am not directly threatened by robots and, as a science fiction fan, am an enthusiast, loving the idea of them, I still hold as prime truth that always human beings must come first.
It is troubling and, as usual, when the answers are complex, mankind will swing from one end of the pendulum to the other, and I dread to think of what will happen at either extremes. We must mature, but whether we do or not depends also on what the robots will be like.
Imagine you are in a building that catches fire. As the firemen are about to enter the building, you wave to them and they see you on the fourth floor. Once inside, because of the extreme heat, they decide it is a waste to make the effort, just in the unlikely event someone is still alive.
Out of the four of them, one is a human, the rest are robots. The robots are not afraid, it is just that they have been programmed to keep in mind that they cost a lot of energy to manufacture, so they must only risk themselves when they are certain they can save a human life.
Luckily for you, the human firefighter does not believe in logic. To him, if someone is in danger, it is his duty to get them out, so he makes his way to you and the two of you share a beer at a pub the next day.
Some would thank him for saving them. I would thank him for being a human, and not a robot.
well said, it has got to be said that robot have to be programed by humans, they don't see logic and in a sence have no compasion, this been said its all down to data, if that person on the top floor has only 1% chance of making it out a human would attempt to go after that said person. a robot might sence that with been that small of a risk could let the person burn.
this is the problem.
