God I hate Facebook

I really do. I mean more so than other platforms. Even YouTube comments are better.
It's nothing new, and I'll certainly be happy when their tyrannical monopoly finally crumbles, but I can really feel how spending time there is bad for my soul. Its like negativity radiation..
I know what you're thinking. "so? Why are you there?". And that certainly is a good question. The easy answer is I use it for work. Most of the people around me use only Facebook, the most active being a group for socialising for people in my area. Sure, I can do without it, but it is the only one of its kind here (monopoly).

I don't go on fb anywhere near as much as I used to.. But even 10 mins on there can really dampen my spirits...

So, I just want to tak this opportunity to thank you, beautiful Hivians! We may not agree on everything, but I am always uplifted whenever I visit. When I describe Hive to people, I say sure, it's a blockchain with crypto currency, but the real magic there, is the people, the community.
And I really experience it.

So thank you for being my safe haven, I know that as long as I havey community here, the world is not such a dark place.

I love and appreciate all of you, and hope you're having a marvellous day.
And if not, I am sending you love especially ❤️

Yes!! And thank you for introducing Hive to me, it is, for me, the best place to be in the digital space

Yup. I totally agree.

To use your words:

Its like negativity radiation..

And...

spending time there is bad for my soul.

Which is why I ditched it a few years back for pretty much everything but its messaging service because I wanted to stay in touch with family and friends.

Hive is a much better experience all round and yeah the people/community is the true value of it!

That local group is extremely useful, unfortunately, but I do have to grit my teeth before checking responses to any questions I put on there!

Hive just isn't place-based enough to give me the kind of utility the Portugal Facebook groups do.

One thing i have noticed about Facebook is that it makes me want to bait people - there's so much angst - even that question i put up about a solar pump got someone going (moaning about another reply that was too utopian) but that just makes me want to wind him up, which in itself isn't good, only on Facebook.

There's another group called 'British in Portugal' which is basically an anti-Brexit group cunningly disguised as an information group - that's a really unfun place to spend any time, thankfully really not that useful which makes it easy to just not go there, although it served its purpose this time last year at least.

Something else i've noticed is that some of the admins of these groups have something of a god-complex.

It really is a bizarre platform.

I'm not sure if it's a good thing or not but I don't think you can even compare it to Hive.//??

I have to say i haven't looked back since i closed my account.. its amazing how easy it was to let go of it.. and in fact how little it matters..

i am SURE, if you were to hit the deactivate button you would find other, new, perhaps better ways to connect with people...

much love! onwards and upwards! lets find a better way <3

How did I miss your comment!? Only just saw this!
Yeah, I gotta say, I haven't deactivated my account yet, but I have uninstalled the app from my phone and honestly, I haven't really been on fb since...
I would scroll before, just always open and check. And I gotta say, it was pretty easy to just switch off.
Much better.
Thanks for sharing!
