Ginger Coffee With Young Coconut Drink
One of the most popular traditional Indonesian drink is "BANDREK". This traditional drink is made from ginger, cinnamon, lemongrass, and palm sugar. Usually, it is popular by enjoyed at night, or when someone is having a fever and has a cough.
The dominant taste of this ginger drink is indeed spicy and warm. That's why sometimes milk is added to disguise the spicy taste of the ginger effect.
There are many variations of ginger drinks. The addition of coffee and young coconuts are something unexpected that makes you fall in love especially for coffee lovers.
I will share with you this recipe for a drink that is full of warmth.
Ingredients
- 1 liter of water
- 170 grams of palm sugar, thinly sliced
- 1-2 segments of ginger or about 10 cm of ginger (can be adjusted to your taste)
- 5 cm cinnamon
- 2 tablespoon coffee
- 300 grams of young coconut
How to make
- Burn ginger first to bring out the fragrance so that the flavor of the drink will be more enjoyable.
- Clean the ginger skin so that there is no bitter taste. Then cut it into pieces.
- Mix ginger, palm sugar, cinnamon, and coffee powder into 1 liter of water.
Heat with low heat until boiling.
Lift, then strain. Then cook again.
- Add young coconut. Cook for a while, then lift.
- Serve.
The serving can be enjoyed up to 6 cups @200 ml.
It's easy to make, right? For the people of Indonesia, of course, this traditional drink recipe is a favorite because of the abundance of young coconut in our area. :)
Benefits
Ginger, coffee and young coconut, all of them have the benefits of each body. Although there is a lot of controversy regarding side effects, still consuming the right amount of black coffee will not cause health problems.
Ginger drinks have long been a traditional herb of my family, precisely to treat sore throat, cough, and fever. Addition of young coconut and coffee, it makes this herbal drink more unforgettable. You have to try it!
I hope you like the recipes of traditional drinks from Indonesia, a tropical country that is warm and friendly.

Ginger, with coconut? :O What a combination! I wonder how it tastes like... Ginger is often too strong for me, so I only like it in small doses, but gosh the photos here are so beautiful that I feel like i really should taste this some day :D
I just taken the photo with my phone camera, but with good sun shine in the morning.

Such an amazing recipe and so well presented:) I enjoyed seeing the procedure and i can imagine how tasty it must be. I also did not know about burning the ginger for more flavour:)
You have to try this recipe. If you have no fresh coconut stock, then just use basic recipe, ginger, palm sugar, and cinnamon.

this is wonderful! I am a big fan of natural medicine, herbology and thai cooking but never really looked into indonesian cuisine specifically. this makes sense. I adore ginger and recently took to substituting coconut-almond milk in my coffee. never thought to combine them! this is another great recipe i cnt wait to try!!
Thai and Indonesian cuisine have many similarities in spices and main ingredients.
A simple drink from ginger is of course ginger milk or tea.

Interesting recipe! I will ask my Indonesian in-laws if they know it too. They live in The Netherlands for over 40 years but they still cook Indonesian so I assume that they know how to make it.
It sounds to me like a strong herbal tea and I can imagine that it has healing properties when someone is sick. I'm not sure if it would be my taste but I'm open to try :)
Thank you for sharing your recipe! Have a lovely day!
Just image the ginger tea for simple drink :)

WOW - this is soooo appetizing @anggreklestari - from so many perspectives; flavours, health benefits AND cultural diversity.
I'm a BIG fan of ginger, both for taste and health benefits, and just LOVE seeing and exploring new ways to use it everyday.
Curious if you ever make it with fresh ground coffee? We prefer NOT to use instant coffee due t the chemicals involved and curious if you have ever tried.
So nice to see our Nat Med people getting some recognition and awesome curation. :)
This is fresh ground coffee from Aceh. I bought it. The smell so good!

I was intrigued by ginger coffee. This sounds tasty. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
I have to try this. I had never thought about the combination, but I love the three flavors separately.
It must be a blast, especially cold.
We usually prepare the young coconut with its water and ice (when milk was available we added milk, now it is impossible).
One of my daughters is having some sore throat, so that will be the excuse to prepare this concuction :)
Young coconut is amazing ingredient. You can combine them for various drink, dish, or dessert.

We're always told to take our fruits and veggies more seriously, but fruits and veggies are usually boring. This one you've shown doesn't seem boring at all, it sure seems tasty and stimulating.
You didn't say this but I'm sure given the ingredients like ginger and coconut this is some food that boosts sex drive and fight STDs. This is some sexual elixir right here
