GODLINESS AND CONTENTMENT

in #religion8 years ago

Greed rules the hearts of men today and it manifests itself in diverse ways such as dishonesty, unethical practices, scandalous conduct and unhealthy competition. The driving force behind all these gain or ill gotten wealth for which they've mortgage their souls. They wrongly believe that what makes a man happy and fulfilled in life is the amount of wealth he or she amasses. But what makes for a happy life is "Godliness with contentment" (1 Tim. 6:6).

Godliness is obeying God and leaving a Godly life. Contentment on the other hand is being satisfied. It is God-given blessing that makes rich and added no sorrow (1 Tim. 6:6; Prov. 10:22). Many Christians today have indeed pierced themselves with so much sorrows in the pursuit of worldly riches "He that is greedy of gain trouble his own house...." (Prov. 15:27) also Jeremiah 22:13.

Dear friends, do you belong to any of these categories? if yes, then you must be aware that "God is not mocked; for whatsoever sow, that he shall reap" (Gal. 6:7).

I understand your post, and I have read what the Bible says about the pursuit of wealth. It's not good. But what I conclude from my readings is that Christians should remain poor, never accumulate wealth, and should even give away what little they have. This is frustrating, because I feel that the only way to please God is to be homeless and have nothing, including food. So should Christians even be on Steemit? I really don't know. I know Christ and try to follow His word, but it seems everything I am doing is wrong.

@countryinspired That not it.... the post talks about contentment and Godliness not poverty (poor). i do not support a christian being poor.
prosperity is your birthright in Christ Jesus. The same Jesus Christ who died to set you free from sin and gave you salvation, set you free from poverty also. 2 Cor. 8:9 tells us that "the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ was revealed to us in that though he was rich, yet he became poor that we might be rich...."

Therefore prosperity is all yours for the taking. further more 3 John 2 "Beloved, i wish above all things that thou prosper and be in good health, even as your soul prosper"

But Matthew 19:21 says:
Jesus said to him, if you have a desire to be complete, go, get money for your property, and give it to the poor, and you will have wealth in heaven, and come after me.

  1. And Jesus said to his disciples, Truly I say to you, it is hard for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of heaven.
  2. And again I say to you, It is simpler for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a man with much money to go into the kingdom of God.

Proverbs 23:4 - Take no care to get wealth; let there be an end to your desire for money.

Psalm 62:10 - If your wealth is increased, do not put your hopes on it.

These are just three passages, but in Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, Jesus often references either how displeasing people with wealth are to God, or how the wealthy will not inherit God's kingdom.

It just seems to me that to inherit the riches and glory of heaven, we must live poor here on Earth.

I totally agree with you. As we try to follow God, trials follow us, but they result in our dependence on God and we can be content in whatever condition we are, if we only are close to God.
