I live in a New Jersey beach town that for years was languishing. Out of control poverty and crime had ruled the day since the race riots of the 1970's. That is not the case anymore. The town has become quite popular and the city leaders had made no provisions for the increased parking demand that has become a daily battle.
Instead they numbered all the spots and charge $2/hr to park. They just numbered my street and offered residents a permit for $90/yr. Being that it's September I asked what the prorated cost was and the answer: $90.
This city would suck the last nickel out of your pocket with a straw. Highway robbery to change the rules in midstream and then use the long arm of the law (parking police) to enforce their will on the public.
Not a single thank you for supporting the town when it was on it's knees.
"This city would suck the last nickel out of your pocket with a straw"
That's a great but sad line!
