The pearls were a wedding gift to the then Princess Elizabeth from the King of Bahrain in 1947.
They were then combined with diamonds and were famously worn by the Queen for the portrait that was used on postage stamps in the first twenty years of her reign.
More recently they were worn by Kate, Duchess of Cambridge to Prince Philip's funeral:
