Phew it's been tough going getting out for these runs this early January.
I have only managed three runs since the beginning of the year, and only three short runs to boot, and I've switched to the early evenings around 17.00 for these, as it just suits my mood better.
I just cannot face getting up at 6.00 and heading out for 7.00 in this cold and dark it's just so much easier doing an evening run when it's mid-winter....
For the three runs I did I managed one nice pace run and the other two a bit faster, old habits die hard. Well, not even that fast, but high heart rate.
I put it down to the cold, it's tough going!
3RD Jan 5K
0 degrees after a hard day's work, took it nice and easy...
Relatively low HR...
8th Jan Run...
Still cold, and a bit faster....
10th Jan 5K...
Coldest yet, - 1 degrees! Coldest run ever? Maybe!
I ended up going a bit faster
Relatively high HR!
Early Jan Runnnings final thoughts...
It's been cold, it's been all work work work, it's been dark frankly I'm happy to have got three post-work runs in at all.
This week it's a bit warmer, it'll still be dar, but 4-5 degrees is MUCH more doable!

Winter really tests your endurance. Not much point in worrying about fast times, but still does you good to get out. I'm getting back into my runs after my back trouble. May go out tomorrow at lunch time.

Ah good to hear you're getting back to it!
Nice pace! I'm not running nowhere near my desired consistency, but good thing is when I do go for a run, the weather is still quite decent here! :) Too much, to be true - these would be Spring temperatures, we're going for almost 20ºC here!
Ah 20 degrees sounds lush, I've had enough of these cold runs THB!
I suppose running faster definitely keeps you warmer in winter. I only started the low heart rate stuff in our summer, hopefully I will be fitter and faster in zone 2 when our winter arrives and i wont have to rug up too much.
I don't mind layering in Winter, I think I feel the cold more than most, even at 0 degrees I sometimes treble layer with a thick base layer and then a jacket over a regular top.
