If a run happens without a Garmin, is it a run.....?

in #running2 years ago

So as I entered the gym intent on doing my treadmill session on Tuesday I realised that I'd forgotten my Garmin....

Not that surprising as it's quite a mission packing a gym/ sauna bag - there's a surprising amount of stuff to remember: all the kit of course, water bottle, padlock, phone (obviously), sweat towel, flip flops, gym shoes, towel, gym card, a lot more than if you just head out for a run and back home, so forgetting ONE item, I can forgive myself that...

But I did still momentarily think 'is it worth it if I don't track it...?'

It was only a momentary thought, and not a seriously committed one as I didn't even break step thinking to make a 20 minute round trip back home to get said Garmin, but the thought arose nonetheless!

It's maybe a bit sad, but not as sad as the fact that five years ago I probably WOULD have made that round trip to get the Garmin so I could track and display the workout.

Probably it's because I knew I was going to be taking it easy that made it, well, easy, to run without tracking.

But it's an interesting thought process - I run not just because I enjoy running, which I do, but also because I like the data, I like the tracking, it somehow validates the run and makes it more than just the run itself, it makes it social.

Maybe I'm more shallow than I thought!

Only TWO runs this week....

I only managed two short and easy interval sessions this week, just holding my own, both on the treadmill courtesy of the CONTINUED grotty, windy and wet weather, and being away this Weekend means I couldn't fit in a third, well I could have done but it was just easier and more appropriate to chill instead!

Run one and two, the tracked and the not tracked, were pretty identical:

10 mins warm up on the cross trainer and then 1K at 11KPH to further warm up and then simply 1 times 400M at 12KPH and then 3 times 400M at 13KPH. All on a 1 degree incline.

Nothing spectacular, but this was just a week of getting them in really.

I need to get back to Hereford to kick back into the running properly, I've had enough of Ramsgate it's killing my spirit!

Next couple of weeks running....

I'll be moving soon and so it's just a matter of holding my own and I'll try and get in maybe two long walks as well, if the weather allows!

Sort:

I am actually in the process of reducing my connected gadgets.

After tracking for years, the data is to be expected every time and not telling me anything new anymore.

In all fairness I am not looking to train professionally 😄

Back to simpler life.

There's something to be said for going natural, I feel it!

Nice. I've starting running again - only coach to 5k so far. Before the plague I used to be an avid gym goer and before that a running (well waddler really!)

The after a year of the pandemic we got Pippa Cockapoo - what a wonder. So walking took over. It has been a miracle to be spending more time in nature. But it does not take the place of the gym or running.

So I am doing more things now like mediation and yoga. Just a little. And am now 3 weeks into the Couch to 3k - which is a wonderful programme. As you have said, I am really finding my lungs don't perform like they used to! I'm sure they (may) come back but it is surprising how much fitness I have lost. Like all of it!

Ah nice to hear you're getting back into it, slowly slowly! Keep it up!

I also can not run without M2E applications.
Precviously I just like runing. but now I can not run without M2E game energy.
I'm afraid I can not enjoy normal games due to Play to Earn..
