Due to the snow we've had this week I hadn't run since last Sunday. I don't have any running shoes with decent grip and just didn't want to risk it. Yesterday it got up above freezing and most of it has melted away. The footpaths looked clear and so I headed out this morning. This picture is a bit of a cheat as I had to find a patch of snow to stand on. I just wanted to show that I still get by in shorts when it's around freezing. I really don't feel the cold on my legs. I get a few comments showing concern for my health, but we are used to the cold and I'm really not doing anything extreme. I'll also say that you don't need to say this is an 'amazing post' or similar. I don't respond well to flattery and it won't do much for you here. I like conversations and honest opinions.
I've missed a couple of workouts, but this was due to be a long run. It's my longest in a while at about a quarter marathon. By the end I felt I could happily go further. That's a good sign if I'm to do this half marathon in May. My training programme wanted me to do it a lot slower, but I was happy at this pace. The legs are doing okay and I recover well after the run. I remember when I started running that I'd be feeling exhausted for ages afterwards.
I saw quite a few runners out today. I expect some had been waiting for better conditions as I did. I ran through a fairly new housing estate in the next village. It's a maze of streets that also has a new school and hall. Not many people out and about there, but I did see some ducks.
The training programme is ramping up the weekly distance. It's just not ideal for me to do a long run in my lunch break, so I may swap some runs around to fit that. It's largely about getting used to running further, so the order is not vital.

Seems that you didn't notice your inactivity this week...it has been a good run 👍🏻
I keep active anyway with lots of walking to get to work. I hope I can keep up the running now.
Don't neglect your slow runs - low effort keeps your heart rate in the aerobic training zone which builds your base fitness, on which all your performances sit on.
Cheers. I'll bear that in mind
I passed eight runners today, out on the road, most on the side with the wide verge, only one with nearly as many clothes as I was wearing and one, the smoothest runner, just in singlet and shorts. I thought I would keep on to the shop and pick up some smoked fish for breakfast, realised when I got there that I didn't have any cash with me!
@shanibeer you passed them? Are you telling us you were running faster than them ? lol :-)
No one was going to pass the runner in the singlet and shorts. He was very fast and very graceful. I'm glad you're paying attention, though 😜
Graceful ? hmmmm you mean hot ? lol ;-)
I did have two tops on and some gloves that I had to take off part way. It's quite a nice day now.
Yes, it turned out lovely, almost balmy.
Well done for getting out there, it's hard to find the motivation after not running for a week. xx
Just have to do it if I want to keep improving. Having an event lined up helps
Not a runner myself but my wife runs in all kinds of weather including the white stuff!
She even ran on the canal this week during the 'bad day' of Wednesday pulling along our reluctant 'more white than golden' retriever, felt more sorry for the dog!
She needs to get her SweatCoin's for the day though! My introduction to Cryptocurrency has had its effect I suppose :)
I'd just slip on snow in these shoes. I need some trail shoes really.
Glad your area finally thawed out enough to get a safe run in! Is it likely you will get more snow or does it look like spring is around the corner in your neck of the woods?
I'm trying not to complain too much about chilly overnight temps here as before I know it the weather gets ridiculously hot and humid. I think it may actually be worse trying to run in the summer around here!
That may be it for this winter. Some years we don't get any. It just causes chaos when we do
well done on getting out in the cold. In shorts even!
That's way too cold for me to be out in trousers!
It's good that you are still feeling good as you ramp up the distance. It's amazing how your body adapts to the increase in workload.
I'm now comfortable running at a pace that would have killed me this time last year.
It looks like you are well on track for the half marathon in May.
First of all those legs are definitely the legs of a Englishman. joking
Second i am really impressed with your ability and dedication, well done.
I used to run and be really active, but then i contracted fibromyalgia. I do alot of walking on the beach and in our forests when im studdying its diversity.
But there is nothing like the highs that working out and keeping fit gives you.
So you ran 12 KM?! Awesome!!!
I have been trying to break that 6 KM mark for quite some time now! By the time I hit that 5-6KM mark I feel so exhausted and just quits it. I hope that I could break at least an 8KM mark within the 2 weeks ( I eat way less these days, maybe that is the reason 🙂)
It takes time to build up, but keep pushing your limits. I need to double this for the race.
You get used to running, like any physical activity. It's great, that the snow melted, it will melt in my town at least the end of April. Work added snowfall, which has been going on for the last 4 days
Wow, where are you? We just get snow for a week or two each winter, if at all
I live in Russia, in the Urals. Even in may you can see the remains of the snow in the dark corners. On all omens, this spring must be early and warm. I hope so))))
I expect you are used to it. I don't mind winter, but I like that our weather is not too extreme.
Hello. You surely have a very good breakfast to be able to withstand the cold. Personally, I don't dare to do it even in the spring. Good luck to have the race back @steevc
It's really not that cold. I had a banana before the run and cereal afterwards. I soon warm up from the exertion.
Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity.
Your running stats are awesome but I think increasing your speed in intervals will help decrease the time. But running fast continuously will tire you fast. Have a good time working out. Cheers
Health is great wealth that is what we all read in our schools. However, as we grow, majority of us forget this basic and most important lesson of life. Body is just like machine, if any of its part does not work fine, it will affect the overall performance. Health is without a doubt the most precious thing of this world. I plan to post my workout videos. @steevc, Which platform you think would be right in this regard?
I use Youtube. I've tried dtube, but I just have issues making it work. I need to experiment more with it. I see plenty of other people using it.
I see. Thank You!
Nice work getting on your feet again after a very brief winter stop. Looking forward to your next run.
i love running in the snow snow is the shit.
Some people don't like the snow.

Looks like a superb run
This snow seems to be recurring within your group political region. I have never seen or heard of snow in Africa before.sorry bro
Why sorry? I'm sure places in Africa get snow. You have some big mountains there.
So many runner ups ...it wud have been difficult chase ...... Hope you won....😄
P.S they aren't wearing nickers either....all of them....
You have improved your performance a lot, do not care about the cold air, and tried to continue the activity, will achieve a positive result in the race, good luck my friend @steevc
Exercise to re-energise.
Running is one of the best exercise..... for proper fitness, everyone should run...
