Sunday run: Tunnel vision

in #running7 years ago

Here's a shot from my run today. There are several underpasses for the local bypass, but this one seems to attract the most graffiti.

Tunnel

I did my regular loop on my own this time. We're looking to build up more of a social thing with local runners. That's likely to be on Facebook just because it's where the most people are. That said, I'm seeing a lot more runners on Steemit now. The latest is @vrun who is training for a half marathon. That's something I'd like to do at some point. I really need to get serious about my training for that. I wasn't particularly quick today, although my 5km time was quicker than yesterday. I think running two days in a row has just taken it out of me and I had to walk in the last few kilometres. At least I'm not suffering the tight calf muscles I was getting after running previously. I do just find that when I walk during a run my left calf is not quite right and walking can actually be harder than running. I don't think it's anything too serious, but you have to monitor what your body is doing.

Run

I'll try to do at least three runs a week to see if it leads to improvements. I'll also do some mini workouts at home to try and build general strength. I have been doing some pushups most mornings for a while. This 50+ year old body needs all the maintenance I can give it.

Steem on and run free!

Did you party last night? Also have you been eating right? Those can effect you or even getting enough sleep.

You know graffiti inside tunnels kind of scares me. It can be gang related at times or you could get met up with a suspicious person.

I had a quiet night in. Ate pizza, but no beer. I don't think we have gangs around here, just some bored kids.

Tight calves could be symptomatic of tightness elsewhere, especially if you are not running up hills.

Try stretching your glutes, hamstrings and the soles of your feet and check for pain / tightness. It may actually be there that the problem lies.

I usually run about three times a week also. More than that and I tend to have issues.

At 52 years old, my body just isn't up to the pounding of my youth. And I can't even party any more :-(

By the time things really get going all I want to do is curl up in bed and go to sleep hehe

I'm not really getting pain anywhere. We're a similar age and I think it's just wear and tear. I wouldn't want to give up my running just yet. I just wasn't into sport when I was young.

Fair enough. Take it easy and don't go too hard too fast (like I do) and your body will adapt. It's amazing just how much our bodies can change even when we are older. ;-)

I wish i could run i used to love it, and get a huge rush every time.
My joints are terrible now so i walk on the beach and in the bush and along the way i take photo's.
Keep running and doing what you love, and i will continue to listen

Sorry to hear you can't run any more. Enjoy what you can.

Excelente foto Steeve! Y tranquilo por lo de tu pantorrilla, sólo debe ser fatiga por la carga de haber corrido dos días seguidos.
Un poco de recreativo y descanso para esas piernas y luego de nuevo al ruedo con todo!
Abrazo!

Exercise is essential for the body to strengthen muscles and gain flexibility, but exercise alone is not enough if there is no healthy and complete diet @steevc

Well I eat fairly healthily. I just need some treats to make life worth living. I gave up meat many years ago

Try to enjoy life is beautiful @steevc

Great stuff, keep it up. I need to do some strength workouts, I hate doing them, much rather be running, but I suppose it has to be done.

Running is a good sport, but it's more fun if we run with our spouses

My wife is unlikely to run. Just not her thing :)

We may train or peak for a certain race, but running is a lifetime sport.

You got a pretty fast pace there, Sir! And also, the tunnel seems like the tunnel where one of the scenes of Kdrama Goblin was taken haha Just saying!

Good running .
Thanks for sharing this post.
Carry on my dear.

'My dear'? Funny. You'll have to say a bit more to deserve any votes from me. Otherwise it looks like spam

You didn't re-steem. Your comment is worth nothing, so make your comments have value
