First trail run of 2018

in #running7 years ago

The weather was lovely again today, so as soon as I could I strapped on my running shoes and headed out for a wee run through the hills.

This was just a short, light run. I have an ultra race on Saturday, so I don’t want to be doing anything crazy at this stage. But it was good to get a bit of hill climbing in, and check on the progress of the raspberries and blackberries that grow alongside the trail.

They are not looking too good thanks to the long spell of really dry weather. But with the rain coming up over the next few days, it might be enough to plump them up a bit. I’m keeping an eye on them so I can go an pick a bunch of them when they are nice and ripe.

My body felt pretty good on the run. My quads are a bit stiff after the road run yesterday, but apart from that (and the broken rib) I’m feeling pretty good. I think the two weeks off over Christmas has been a good thing for me. My body feels hungry to be running. I could feel my legs wanting to attack the uphill bits of the trail today. The tendonitis in my ankles seemed to have sorted itself out, so I’m not in all that much pain when I’m running now.

Se I’m all set for Saturday. I might get a gym session or two in before then, but if I do it will just be light, mostly stretching and light cardio.

I’m really looking forward to this race, and indeed the rest of the year. If things go to plan it should be an awesome year of running.

Here’s hoping it lives up to the promise the start of the year has shown.

Are you running this year? What races are you targeting?

Sort:

You will be in big trouble, you'll come home with blackberry lips and none for the boss, or they will be all squishy from the bouncing,
the level will rise, stand on tippy toes

So I'll have blackberries and she'll have blackberry jam..........
I don't see a problem hehehehe

You had better book an appointment with specsavers,
or you will be shown the problem.

hehehe no doubt!

Good luck on Saturday!

thanks. i'll need it hehe

Good to hear someone giving themselves a rest - too few runners take time out. Hope the ultra goes to plan. After my second marathon last year, I'm heading to the other end of the spectrum and taking on some track races this year: mile, 1500m and maybe even the 800m!

Thanks for that. Nice to see another running on board ;-) I'll follow you (but waaaaay back since you run quite fast)

Well done on completing a marathon. It's not a small thing to do.

The shorter races should work out well for you now that you have all that endurance, and the confidence to go long.

Did you run that distance before? It wold be interesting if you did to see how much your times improve now that you are a marathoner. ;-)

Endurance definitely helps my speed at shorter distances. Since training for my first marathon, where I dropped the pace & effort I ran my long runs, I've got personal bests at every distance from 1 Mile to Half Marathon.

I recommend to all runners I coach to pay more attention to the effort and pace of their long runs - nearly always they are going too fast.

Good luck on your run on Saturday!

Thanks. I'm looking forward to it :-)

Great post bro. Good luck for the weekend

Thanks. I think I'm going to need it :-)
