A few hours ago Prigozhin, the head of Wagner group with tens of thousands of soldiers has made a statement that he is marching on Moscow to deal with traitors in the Russian ministry of defense, to "punish" the military, "restore justice". Urges military to not try and stop him, threatens to kill anyone who will try.
For months now, Prigozhin has criticized the Russian army but a few days ago came out and directly said that many of those claims by Russian propagandists (conspiracy theorists in the west, russian gov. funded media, right wing extremists, twitter grifters) were bullshit. He criticized the justification for the war. Specifically the lies about Ukraine bombing Donbas, the lies about the threat from Ukrainian invasion of Russia.
After posting that video, according to his claims, the Russian army attacked the Wagner group and killed a significant number of his fighters, apparently in retaliation.
That prompted him to make another audio statement where he proclaimed that he is marching on Moscow to deal with the head of the Russian armed forces.
This has all been happening in the last few hours. In the meantime...
-FSB has issued an arrest warrant.
-Prigozhin has been blocked from Russian social media.
-According to some accounts only 25% of Russians right now have access to Google.
-There are some claims that Prigozhin has already crossed into Russia with his army (Crossed the Rubikon) and is currently in Rostov on Don. There are some videos circulating of fighter jets being in the air.
This is all happening right now and its hard to confirm everything so take all this with reasonable skepticism.
Many people want this to be true so they might exaggerate significance of events. Others are rooting for Russia and will downplay it.

More attempts to slow Wagner movement. This is reported to be on a road to Moscow. Very strange attempt since most of the Wagner military vehicles are able to go off-road.

What does this mean for the future efforts in Ukraine?
As it stands now, this major destabilization of Russia is a win for Ukraine.
We seem to be coming to a current de-escalation of hostilities between Wagner and Russia leadership. Wagner has apparently shot down a number of helicopters and planes in Russia but will receive an amnesty for it. How long it will last and how truthful it is will be seen in the coming future from the both sides.

Ukraine's summer offensive so far has been a miserable failure at a huge cost in terms of men killed, in the thousands, and hundreds of armoured vehicles destroyed. Ukraine is destined to defeat by any metric. Russia has massive air and artillery superiority, as well as a plentiful supply of missiles and suicide drones which are having a devastating effect on Ukrainian artillery and armour. Plus Russia has a large military industrial complex, inherited from the USSR, which enables it to out produce the West in terms of artillery shells, tanks and other weaponry. How wrong you are. The coup had no support within any level of Russian society hence its rapid collapse. Meanwhile, Russian forces kept inflicting devastating losses on Ukrainian attacks on the southern Donetsk front.
I was not wrong at all. Moscow came very close to falling. Why he stopped is a question we wont get an answer to any time soon. Russian regime was in full panic mode and I doubt he would face much resistance taking Moscow.
He made it a few hundred kilometers from Moscow and only had to kill 10-15 Russian soldiers.

The comment I made was during the actual coup as it was ongoing and it was progressing extremely well for Prigozhin. At that point he entered Moscow oblast with little opposition. So, again, I was completely correct in my assessment of Moscow falling if Prigozhin continued progressing at the pace he was.

It could have been a number of things. My guess is that he either didnt have the balls to actually get rid of Putin and go through everything that would entail or that he just didnt get enough oligarch support he expected to get.
The video where Putin is panicking and calling what he was doing a betrayal might have done its job inside Wagner to soften their resolve.

A recent Nebula Podcast talked about the Wagner Group and how they are stacked with unfree Russians. Life sentences convicts turned into soldiers and foreign fighters are a big part of that group. So it's very hard to tell what they would consider "own people".

I live in Israel which is close to the West but also has a very substantial (20%) population of Russians, Ukrainians and other people from the FSU. They know what is really going on from wide ranging personal contacts and this information feeds into Israeli public attitudes and government positions. That is why Israel is staying neutral.
Israel fought most of its wars against Russian weapons and knows how good they are.
Regarding what is happening on the ground right now:
on the one hand you have the catastrophic failure of the Ukrainian counteroffensive with embarrassing wholesale destruction of Western tanks and armoured vehicles;
on the other hand some more crazy theatrics which you have documented above.
In this war the West and Ukraine have consistently engaged in theatrical PR stunts while Russia has engaged in the real business of large scale industrial warfare.
It is increasingly acknowledged by serious military people in the West that Ukraine has lost unless some wild card happens.
I expect all sorts of attempts to create crazy wild cards and this Wagner thing is likely one of them.
At the end of the day when Germany admits it has only 20,000 155mm shells left and Russia fires 10,000 per day you realise that NATO has lost this war. The only remaining question is - how badly.
