Bunny - Mona Awad

This was a reread. And I still mostly like it! The premise is just so weird. And I liked the theme of how performative femininity can be brutal, that under all the cupcakes-cute-hugs something nefarious can brew. I said that a few times, I think the Bunnies are more interesting than Sam and Ava (and Max, eww Max). The thing I think is my main criticism is how, in the end, the Bunnies go crazy over one dude. Throw themselves at him like crazy. idk, idk, that didnt really seem to fit their characters before? It felt like they only wanted a better sex toy. Which is twisted and weird but absolutely fine as a motivation.
But since Max was Samanthas deepest, darkest desires and wishes, all the Bunnies were in love with that? eh.
but I liked that Samantha had her little growth moment in the end and became a little less self-centered. I dont care much about Jonah especially (since we dont see much of him, and only through Sams eyes, so I dont know what he is like); but I liked that she let someone in her life, even if this person didnt fit the perfect-brooding-cynic-daaaaark type she envisioned herself to be with.
and I didnt like Max. I never had an opinion about him, I didnt care, could have done without him. All the other relationships and dynamics were more interesting to me.
But overall, I still like that book. Something about the weirdness. I get that probably people like or hate this book, and I am on the "like" side, even though it has its faults imo.
Justice for the Bunnies!
