There two things that I cannot stand, they are scams and fakes. You can say they are one on the same.
Recently someone who is supposedly from Africa has taken the Steemit community for a ride. They have generated over $16,000 from their post.
I'm fairly sure you know who I am talking about. If you do not, it is this post https://steemit.com/steem/@infovore/how-steemit-has-changed-my-life-from-living-on-usd1-day-and-3-hours-of-electricity-to-having-over-usd41-319
This user claims to be from Africa but does not state a country. Hmm... very suspicious. He/she also writes very well, the spelling is American and he/she also uses American memes.
My shit detector went off when this imposter put up a sheet of paper proving to be this user. The paper covered his/her head and was probably one of the worst photos I have ever seen.
At the very end of the post the word "y'all" was used. How would someone in Africa know this word? Chances are they were educated in British school but we really don't even know where they are from. The word y'all is used mostly in the Midwest or Texas. It is not a word widely used outside of there.
If this imposter is really from Africa, I would guess its Nigeria.
Definite upvote for that callout. I understand that if it is true, then by all means give the guy an upvote. It pulls on the heartstrings of people so they do an upvote. Heck, I will admit that I did an upvote it yesterday just by knowing that people will upvote it later. Even if I knew it was totally scammy, not true, or even just trying to make a quick buck, I was going to upvote it because I know for a fact people will also upvote it. I am guilty of being greedy on that one, but until people start posting value add posts, I might as well start becoming a whale sooner than later.
I've been too poor communities but I would not pictures of theses areas to earn money. I was also approached by questionable character one night at gas station and I left right away. This individual ended up commuting an atrocity later that year. I don't write about the details because it is profiting of off the misfortune of the victims.
I posted about it also: https://steemit.com/steemit/@satanic.stoner/is-infovore-really-real
Well see he just needed steem members to send him 10,000 USD so he could re-gain access to his bank account with 1,000,000 USD in it given to him by the prince of nigeria. Its all on the up and up.
omg lol. I wrote one about him too me too = https://steemit.com/steemit/@satanic.stoner/is-infovore-really-real
The poster had some whales vouching for him. Several were commenting and congratulating him. I get what you are saying, my thought at first as well. Then I read all of the comments.
I read the comments also. Here is a more detailed callout: me too = https://steemit.com/steemit/@satanic.stoner/is-infovore-really-real
Whales have brains the size of an apple.

I know. Its brilliant, though, as a scam. I upvoted for creativity. SO MANY RED FLAGS! Stellebelle vouched, but what does that mean?
Since @stellebelle vouched, and she is a "whale"(on the platform, not in real life), that automatically bumped up the price the story got.
I think its her other account haha https://steemit.com/steemit/@satanic.stoner/is-infovore-really-real
