A possible inspiration for this piece was Johann Kuhnau's "Il tremor degl'Israeli". Kuhnau was Bach's predecessor in the Thomaskirche in Leipzig, so it's quite possible Bach was familiar with this piece. Anyway, nice performance, though the solo was a bit thin to my ears.

Thank You for Your comment on my registration and this interesting piece of information! Kuhnau's piece is truly very similar to BWV 721, but I have to agree with You that the emotional depth in BWV 721 is felt much more than in Kuhnau's.
