I have been looking everywhere for this image (for years) and today I found it in a relatively obvious place, why didn't I see it there earlier, after all, it was obvious. Now that I look at the picture however, in my memory it was better but considering it is 12 years old and taken on a Canon G5, I will give it a pass.
I am not the greatest at storing my images and I wish I had developed a better system but, missing the obvious is something well do at times yet, I wonder how obvious some things need to be for us to see them. There have been various phishing attacks on platform lately that have come in various forms but, most have something in common, greed. Yes, yes, yes of course the Phishers are greedy but, that is no what I mean. They play on the greed of the phish. You.
How can so many people think that witnesses or whale accounts are in chat DMs asking them to send SBD to a Bittrex account for votes or -1 reputation accounts saying 'click this link' ? There is only one minus reputation person I have time for at Steemit and he has rep of -17. That takes dedication.
When it comes to memo messages there are two kinds of people on average, scammers looking to get some action that will cost you or, scammers begging for votes. Now, perhaps there are other reasons too but, treat them all with VERY high suspicion. And if you are a high rep person receiving the vote beggars in DM and memos, flag them please, don't encourage them.
Now, no one with any good intentions will EVER ask you for your keys to help you and if you give them to someone, you better be really, really sure you can trust them. I would say, never trust anyone.
Now, when it comes to people saying things like you have "won" this, or "click this link" in a message or there is an invite to click and it is hidden behind a tag or an image, treat it with extreme caution. If for some reason you are asked to sign in to your account again, check and double check the address to make sure that you are signing into what you think and not Stemmit, Steemiit or similar.
Unfortunately in this world there are people willing to behave in disgusting ways for small amounts and unfortunately there are many who's own greed supports it. Greed makes us blind as we start to limit our critical thinking abilities (if we have some) and focus on the win only. That is why so many people get scammed, not because the scams are so cleverly masterminded.
In this world, no matter where you live, how often is it that strangers willingly offer you financial value for very little? Does it happen a lot to you? No? Well why the hell would you think that people would be any more willing to provide value to you here without either getting something in return or taking something from you?
I am not saying that there aren't good people who do provide something for nothing, I am saying that it is rare. Especially when the person doing the offering has a relatively fresh account with very little of value in it. People have to start waking up a little and taking some responsibility for themselves here and learning to pay attention as if something looks like a free lunch, the odds that it is going to be very costly indeed. When it comes to account security, there are many help guides, read some.
Anyway, I am glad I found this photo. It is from the Adelaide Hills in Australia and I stopped on the side of the road to take it as I liked the scenery. I was on holiday there but, I grew up in those hills. Back then, there were no concerns about this kind of security as everyone knew everyone.
There was a cost to being an asshole back then, often a physical one that ended in bloodied noses. I miss those times as there was an honesty in it.

I also wish I had a better storage/labeling system for my photos. I can never find the one I want when I need it.
As for greed, it's ripe on here ATM. I'd like to say I hope it all ends soon and we can movce on with life but life is what happens when this is happening and it's not going to stop. Even if one dies another rises to the top. Not everyone is in this world for the good of others. Most are in it for themselves and I don't think that's wrong I juast don't think I stepping on others or using them to get where you want is appropriate but again. Life isn't fair and they is just a Microsystem of what exists in the real word. Fun and games for all Lol!
This is a large part of the fun for me.
My hubby loves that part too. I find it interesting especially when people get so upset at it not being fairer. It's what we make it. So what does that make us?
Exactly. When I talk about the behaviours here it is not about creating a fairer system, it is about pointing out how terrible humanity is. Fix that, the system will look after itself.
A good photo does not need a lot of storytelling as it tell the story itself. In your case it perfectly compliments your amazing style of writing and the issues that you bring up are always up to date and important regarding time they are brought up.
There were scammers, there are scammers, and there always will be scammers. It is inevitability - period. People are so used that somebody will take care of them, and prevent them of making mistakes, that they became dumb and careless. I hope that BC technology and lack of central regulation will teach people to think once again. Ofc that will be at the expense of many mistake made by millions. No one can protect you from foolishness, and in some way i am not mad at scammers. Everyone has to learn their lesson and act wisely.
Agreed.
I surprisingly think the same. Idiots and their money make an easy target. Make money, don't be an idiot.
Greed is a very powerful motivator to scamming someone. Can't believe how many people follow links and fall for this stuff.
I remember in 3rd grade changing schools and the 5th grade bully decided that he was going to target me. After a couple weeks I had enough and beat the snot out of him at recess. The rest of the school never even thought of messing with me as this kid was the bully of the school and 2 years older then me. They knew if I could do that they would be in trouble.
Life was simpler then. That fight was just that, a fight and nobody trouble. Today if that happened someone would probably expelled as schools have a zero tolerance rule on fighting. Something like this would have labeled me as a troubled kid instead of it being what it was, a bully getting what he deserved.
even if i'm not really old in the platform or i have a huge reputation but i don't really like the way of begging those who have a great influence in the platfom. users must beleive in theirself, and be sure that good content will get a great support, without being in need to beg anyone. thank you friend.
Thanks for the great advise @tarazkp...some people are greedy as you say they cant help without taking advantage on someone...dubious action is circulating in there vein...how can you see a minnow and you are still planning to take the little he/she earn away...the experience i had was some hypocrite came to our community and ask for deal double deals i mean some that are not certify with what they have fall in there trap and there sbd including sp were wipe away...be contended with what you have favour come from God but will be sent through an angel(someone) someone who want to help you will never give you any stress or anything exchanging by barter...thanks once more @tarazkp for sharing this piece of advise...
I like receiving spam messages on steemit, because they usually have to pay for the privilege.
It might only be 0.001SP, but who knows how much that will be worth one day
As for image storing, nothing beats Google photos. And Google desktop sync.
Makes all your photos searchable as well, and always accessible through the app on any device.
I actually have google Business with unlimited storage but still the problem is almost a TB of images and trusting them all to the cloud .... I have so many hard drives :)
Then get a single storage unit, they come much bigger than TB nowadays, and sync that with the cloud.
The chances of both failing are very small.
Hard drives crash all the time. If it's SSD it's safer, but larger storage is often not SSD.
In the chat I usually make a joke to bunch of people.
"You can do ??? by sending your Steem and SBD to me" or "You can secure your password by sending it to me on DM"
People usually laugh at it.
"I'm not that stupid"
But when someone approaches them in DM, giving a link to a Steemit account and saying "Hey buddy, send me SBD so I'll upvote you" - then they do not suspect anything is wrong.
Same people can first laugh to a joke about poor scams, but then fall for a poor scam themselves. As you said, it's the greed.
Lust for money makes them forget to think.
The photo is great btw!
Well said...
The scammers succeed because the person who is getting scammed is lead by her own greed.
Not always though...
The best way is to always be cautious. No matter anything - no one needs to know anything that is private to you - your bank account, passwords or the safe key.
Be careful ALWAYS..
Yeah, it's pretty bad the memos... some people fall for it and lose money. Enjoywithtroy lost over $600 in SBDm he made a post about it... It sucks that people fall for this type of stuff... :(
You have time for that sleeze ball bully? How so? LOL...
Yeah I read about that, I guess it is a learning curve but it is sad it happens at all.
It is an experience and history thing. I have time for many people and my experiences have been vastly different than yours from the little I understand.
They say that nothing in life is free. Everything costs us something. Even if it is only opportunity cost, there's a price. There's no reason to expect that someone is going to look us up out of the blue and want to give us money. If they did, they'd upvote a post. I guess I'm not as greedy as I might think, or I'm practical enough to realize that even if the opportunity is a valid one, the reward is small enough that it's not worth it for me to risk it being a scam. So I don't engage. Or the reward is too big to be realistic, so I don't engage because I already believe it to be a scam. Either way, I don't normally engage. And if I do engage (giving money or whatever), I don't expect to get it back. If it comes back, great. If not, well, I wasn't planning on getting it back anyways, so nothing lost.
Yeah, I think what saves me is I prefer to work than owe a debt. I have trusted some people here with some quite significant amounts but, it is part of the deal and they are not 'completely' strangers.
I'm with you there. I would much rather work and get what I'm owed than to have someone grant me a favor, thereby indebting me to them.
Dubious and greedy is a mortal sin...some people can never change from there bad behaviours... Thanks to @tarazkp for sharing this motivating post. Some people can not help without achieving double from the person they help...the best way to avoid been cheat and not to fall in hands to be duped is to be happy with what you have...don't look for fast miracle it may lead to sadness sometime...
Nice articel dude
terrible comment unfortunately, Try harder, this isn't instagram.
you can just find the thing you are looking for in the appropriate time
Personally, I don't believe begging for upvote. Steemit is a community where people can interact and also do business, if the person likes your blog, he/she will definitely visit.
Those people got scammed because they think steemit is a get rich quick site and the forgot that post and commenting by means of interaction is one of the reason steemit was created and the SBD is only used to reward them for their creativity or hard work
I am happy that you are searching for something and you found that its an achievement.. There are scammers cheaters always exist in every aspect of our life
God bless you sir
There are always scammers everywhere. SMH!!
I feel so bad to read that this happens! And I think most greedy people don't need the money at all, people are just so obsessed with money. Steemit should be a peaceful community, actually just like the real world. Of course, I also want to earn money but there are other ways than steeling it.
Awesome insights @tarazkp ...another substantial post...
Even people that I have known for years, close family members and friends. It's hard to get any financial assistance for free. It's the perfect example I use in illustrating this to people. I like a quote from Robert Greene's 48 laws of power. He said
I hope we'll all look out for these signs so none will fall prey to this wolves.
If your keys are your lifeline on Steemit, losing them is like being naked, thrown out and left for the dead. Trust must be earned. We shouldn’t be quick to open our doors to just anyone.
A man’s greed leads him to the slaughter slab. Don’t be quick to swallow every free meal. Some free meals have hooks hidden inside them. Ask the tilapia fish.
Most people who get scammed want something at a price far less than the market price. And beneath that is something called greed. The Yorubas have a saying, “He who seeks free things, seek destruction. When you want cheap or free things, you overlook red flags crying to be heard, and more easily become easy prey .
People forget that life is value for value. It’s foolish to expect something in instances you are not willing to give something in return.
