There's no point in voting over the next four days. Fun stuff. I just upvoted @utopian-io for 12% just to test it out and I lost 80% of my voting power, lol. Yesterday, @utopian-io was at 20% voting power but now they are back up to 100%, weird.
HF20 is a total shit show, but they changed a lot of things that I'm going to be happy with in the long run.
I found out yesterday during my HF20 rage blackout that accounts will now be able to post comments every block (3 sec) instead of once every 20 seconds. This is a huge deal for me because it will make the dapps I want to create directly on the blockchain much more responsive. However, none of that matters if the resource credits required to post comments are too expensive.
At the same time, the whole RC mana system is likely going to be pretty awesome. After all, Steem Bandwidth is an Extremely Undervalued Resource (Wow 3 months ago I had 1035 SP and now I have 2700.) Hopefully users are provided with more resources as we acclimate to this new system and begin to scale up.
Voting and resource credits are supposed to stabilize over the next 4 days. How on Earth did no one see this coming. It's like we don't even run a testnet. Good thing Steem has no competition or we would have lost thousands of users over this... so unacceptable and unprofessional. It feels like we've experienced more downtime in the last week than most blockchains will experience in their entire life-span. At the same time we are doing a lot more than other blockchains are accomplishing. Double-edged sword I guess.
I was just told to stop looking at the traditional vote and bandwidth bar. It's all about RC Manabar and Voting Manabar now. I think it's interesting that they use the word Mana. It's like we're all blockchain wizards now. As someone who wants to make a blockchain RPG I approve.
You really have to wonder if these Resource Credits are a form of artificial scarcity. I already want even more Steem power after running these tests.
Seriously though, 13 billion RC to make one small comment? 11 billion more to make a small edit? The plankton are going to get wrecked. Luckily it looks like I create 5 trillion RC every 5 days.
I wonder how much it takes to make an account. That's supposed to be the most expensive operation. I'm sure we'll receive a lot more details about how this all works as the days roll by.
I practically begged for Steem to separate vests from bandwidth, multiple times. Be careful what you wish for I guess. Still, I have high hopes for this new system. The old one seemed completely unsustainable and impossible to scale.
Those votes did not cost that much voting power, that is a UI problem and will be fixed as tools adjust for HF20. Everyone got dumped to 0% voting power and most people will be 20-30% range right now.
What happened is these UI displays are lazy updated, so they are only updated once you place a vote. This is the same as it was before, but the tools have not adjusted for the HF20 way of displaying it.
I don't disagree with anything you said though.
Ha yeah it's been a journey. When I realized everyone simply went to zero and the updates were simply deprecated it made a lot of sense.
Actually, several witnesses and SteemIt Inc, did see it coming and warn everyone. Still, it was a shit show, that I agree! Also, the voting power isn't accurate yet, as they told us it wouldn't be.
As I keep voting it is working more accurately.
Isn't that worse? Shows a disregard for existing users.
Sometimes it happens.
Seems to be working perfectly the whole time... It's just when the hardfork released it reduced everyone to 0%... now we have to wait 5 days to get it back. 4 days now.
When a new road is built, the old one gets torn up first and their are delays. I'm fine with that and they did predict it and they did communicate it.
Indeed, I like the new system, I just hope the plankton don't get swept away. It feels like my comments are actually worth something now, and bots won't be able to go on spam rampages.
yeah, time will tell about the results.
There were too many comment spammers, but I am not sure what the impact will mean to quality end users. Let's watch!
This post only required 13 billion RC. I guess the cost for a post/comment is about the same no matter how big they are.
EDIT:
Looks like edits are going to be a big problem. Simply changing the title of my post cost the same amount of mana as creating a whole new post.
So happy I just read that comment because i edit comments a lot, and although I've been trying to track my mana usage over the last hour or so I doubt I would have thought to check for edits. It's frustrating as shit, but like you said, I think in the long run it will work out in our benefit
We are the guinea pigs.
We are the testers.
I voted a full 100 to a winning fellow friend that won a steemfest ticket (sigh, wish I could go to perform with my partner but seems unlikely) just for the sake of testing... It's a bit unfortunate I was given a delegation of 5000 just for four weeks and I'm on my third not being able to vote at all :( like I felt... wee I have superpowers and I can deliver some love back... but I need to hold now. It's time to share some candid posts now and resume with normality. But we can comment normally now right? not upvoting but comment... never understimate the power of encouragement!
Great to see you again @edicted, welcome back! <3 <3
I have bots running on my alt to cast vote every few minutes. I wonder if they will be able to keep up with these mana changes now
Looks like a vote costs 2.5 billion RC right now and comment/post is like 13 billion. I think those numbers change based on how busy it is and what the witnesses will allow though. More accurately I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Since everything costs a billion, why didnt they divide everything by 1B and make it more readable
Good question. I'm sure that is raw data that can be used in that form elsewhere. Also, the more we scale up nodes, the more we can likely reduce the cost of transactions. I think costs also flux during prime times; probably cheaper to post at 3 AM. I'm sure will get more info in the coming days/weeks.
Literally any front end could be dividing the number by a billion for us... but none are doing it. Wild-West style.
In fact, https://steemd.com/@edicted has already updated the bar to show RC percent, with no confusing number attached.
Apparently your wish is their command. It's been divided by a million.
Finally someone with brain used it. If they thought about all the issues before, we might have had a smooth release without losing all vp.
Lol that would be too simple

I've been forked!
Ha I thought about the new season of TGP too (and I'd upvote your post, but can't afford to do so ;))
No one can haha.
I wonder if it will let me post a comment....
From what I understood commenting is going to cost a lot more than before. I think this will hurt the communities that have been created here. We run off each others comments. I also am a comment ninja; I don't post as much but I comment a whole lot so I better not run into any issues with posting my normal 30 comments on one of my good days.
It's certainly a possibility that you run into problems with only 90 SP. I've got 2700 and I'm still worried.
There's no point in worrying about it now though. Let the witnesses get their shit together first. Gotta let the new system reach equilibrium before we complain about it as a long-term issue.
I have 775 SP. i wonder what all of this means for me.
I think it means the front-ends like Steemit, Busy, and SteemPeek are going to have to be more transparent about how much an operation costs. I assume it costs less to use the blockchain during times that less people are transacting.
Oh. That makes sense. Thanks.
It looks like you only have the RC to do one more post/comment.
I always played rogue, so I'd rather energy rather than mana. And that thumbnail is health bar :|
Jokes aside, I just need to mention that UIs didn't respond to changes correctly. Utopian has 24% VP (Mana) currently. It's not magically re-charged or sth.

HF20 crit me for 61, bro.
It is kind of crazy that this is impacting over 95% of the Steem population! While it is disappointing, it will be interesting to see how much engagement drops these next couple of days as users know that rewards will be limited. It will also be interesting to see where the rewards that are distributed actually go as well!
i am using this time to clean my studio and engage people through comments, also doing some posting today cause i was having withdrawals yesterday ..amazing how addicted i got to steemit in such a short time
So, my last three comments combined have taken roughly 82 billion. It's not being based off character length from what I can tell, but it seems to be either increasing as I comment more, or increasing the more I converse with someone else. I won't know which until after I post this one. :)
You do a great job of describing the double edged sword of this hard fork, @edicted. There is definitely an on the one hand and on the other type of scenario going on here. When I came here, I just wanted to post. Now, because I'm a part of a wider community, I want to comment and upvote, too. And I want to do it without running out of RC/mana. I've already invested some into STEEM. I'm wondering how much we need to not be concerned with what we're trying to do here.
Smaller accounts need to do more in order to gain exposure, with or without the use of self-upvotes or bidbots. Not sure how they can do this unless the system does start equalizing somehow in their favor. Not sure how that would work, but it would be nice that the hard workers on the lower end (not saying everyone mind you, because not all are equally hard working) would catch a break.
Maybe I could set up a service that sells bandwidth for votes. Upvote a whale: get 10 times the bandwidth back. A lot of the big guys are going to have unused bandwidth... and it has value now.
Also, I think the cost of things is going to be variable depending on peak times.
Hey @edicted, since the amount of resource credits is tied to the amount of vests one has, wouldn't it just mean leasing/delegating steem power?
I think the entire point of separating vests from bandwidth is self-explanatory. We now have two resource systems. From my point of view one of the best things about this system will be allowing one person to transfer bandwidth separately from Steem Power. Maybe I'm way off base here and this won't be an option, but I think it's the obvious evolution of the platform.
According to this post: https://github.com/steemit/steem/wiki/RC-Bandwidth-System, if I'm getting this right, resource credits are not transferrable :/
Fair enough. I'm gonna go ahead and predict that the next hardfork will make them transferable. Maybe it's possible to even do it with a softfork? That certainly would be ideal. Regardless, I think it's the obvious next step.
No competition? Um, have you seen the tons of Steemers over on weku.io?
Eh, I've already written like 10 blogs about why open source tech is cooperative and not competitive. It's been shown time and time again that the blockchain can't scale fast enough to accommodate demand. This causes an overflow to all the other chains. Trickle down is a real thing in this case.
HF20 is a big step in the right direction for scaling up.
Ooo!! I did a 1% vote!! Will it let me comment now, too?!
What is the use of you can't comment and vote?

Weku is already getting popularity. The number of userbase have increased tremendeously over the two steem blackout. Though i did not get the same feel but saw many familiar name...big or low.....
Like different dapps on steem now finally people have found an alternative in weku....and for sure next 4 days it is going to see more rush in there...

'M'na means disagreeing and 'M'ana means agree ...both are hindi words..so whztever the craze or mess created by mana...whosoever love to spend time on steemit will keep steeming

Phew, yesterday couldn't comment, upvote or do anything, today I can, seems like some of my mana's finally replenished.
I worry that I am too tiny of a fish to make it thru this.
Blockchain with rpg character would be whaleshares. They introduced mana way before steem, by the way. :)

I saw that earlier and I like how they display it in the wallet.
