I've also heard that an advantage of silver coins having a face value is that if traveling abroad, you can declare that you have $50 in money, when in fact it's 50 troy ounces silver worth a lot more. Is this true?

My main point was that "coins" go up in value each year and the rounds are only worth basically the silver thats in them.. and not sure about the traveling abroad :/
It is very true. The face value was set years ago on the amount of money it took to buy a certain weight of Silver or Gold. That was the way back many moons ago in Canada. Added you to my "Following" as well. DR
