Hunt for gold

Hi friends,

The other day, I went out to a gold claim with my metal detector hoping to find that elusive giant gold nugget. This was my first time to this claim (I am part of a club that has a number of claims that members have access to), which was a couple hour drive from my house.

A creek runs through the claim and I had no idea if there would be water or not in it, so I brought my sluicing gear and my dry material gear just in case - there was no water at this time. The dirt road was in pretty good shape so that was helpful, but then I trekked through the underbrush to the claim, which was about a 15 minute hike.

Once there, the area was pretty interesting and there seemed to be decent mineralization in the area. Here are some pictures:

I mostly used my metal detector looking for nuggets - spoiler alert, didn’t find any.

What I did find were lots of bullets and buckshot. I also found a few hot rocks, but and some interesting specimens.

I did find one garnet gemstone, which looks cool closeup:

Overall, a fun day out in nature. Better luck with the giant gold nugget next time.

Thanks for coming by,
Brian

Keep looking for gold, perseverance always triumphs, one day you will make a post saying, I found gold.
I wish you a happy night

Continue your search for gold, I hope you will be successful and can collect a lot of gold.

Of course bullet casings……
Nice find even if no gold.

!LADYThat sounds like quite the adventure, @brian.rrr! I admire your thorough preparation, bringing both your sluicing and dry material gear just in case. Even though there wasn't any water, it must have been a good feeling to be out there exploring. The 15-minute hike through the underbrush sounds like it added an extra layer of excitement to the trip.

The area seems interesting.

Good morning, the garnet gemstone you find there is stunning, nature is blessed with so many beautiful things, I wish you good luck in finding the giant gold nugget, cheers friend.

Wow
I once found a gemstone and I still have it till today. It’s a white tourmaline stone. Do you know it?

That’s awesome! I know of green tourmaline but not white!

I joined the treasure hunter club and use different kind of gold detector but none of them get a gold. We just dug hole after hole after hole, no gold.

These things are much rarer and every time we get to see them, it gives us much more pleasure and a new experience.

Heck yeah! There's a gpaa claim on Piru creek called Triple D and M that I've been wanting to go checkout. I seen some YT videos of prospectors sluicing and panning there and they were actually finding a pretty decent amount gold.

Nice! I have been there and did find some gold! Not as plentiful as East Fork but good water source. Was wondering if it was impacted by the fires in the hungry valley area.

Even when you don't find much, it's still great to get out into the wilderness. Although, that garnet was a nice find, just need to follow it to the source. It's either an almandine or grossular. If you ever want to visit some mineral collecting places in So. Cal. I'm always happy to take people.

Been watching some of these guys videos and I am this close to going crevicing!

Nice man! What are some of your good finds in the so cal area? @derekrichardson took me to an awesome spot for pink/purple corundum!

Topaz, beryl(aquamarine, morganite), amazonite, smoky quartz, garnets, a lot of minerals!

Yes, I know the spot Derek took you too because I took him there. Right now I am prospecting for a spot in the San Jacinto mtn. that produces up to 2' long corundum crystals. These are some pieces I found last week.

Then I shot over to the California Blue Mine and found a bunch of aqua.

There is still a lot of material out there, including gold, you just have to find it!

That’s amazing! Nice work! Yeah, would be cool to join you on a trip out somewhere!

Better luck next time..

Nice looking garnet! It's always fun to find bullets, found way than more my fair share of those over the years. And tin cans... Awesome that you have a shared claim, just a shame no gold nuggets were to be found. You could use a dry washer out there when there's no water, but shoveling all that dirt is tiring!
