Or do you have to go elsewhere and create a wallet then transfer that to it? I'm new to this smartcash thing BEAR with me, learnin' here.

you simply set up a smart cash web wallet at smartcash.cc. Get your deposit address and then transfer the smart i tipped you to your own wallet.
