The most beautiful snake (in my opinion)

The Gaboon adder or aptly named Butterfly viper (Bitis gabonica)

With pinks and purples, beiges and browns this is truly a stunning snake to behold.

...and in leaves it amazing how well these colors and patterns provide camouflage.

Of all the snakes I have kept over the years (and there have been many hundreds) I have never had one of these.

They are rare, hard to find and require the correct permits to keep where I am from but the real reason I never mad the effort to acquire one for my reptile collection was the fact that they posses the longest fangs in the snake kingdom. Some over 2 inches... 5cm and a very decent venom to go along with that set of hypodermic needles.

I learned early on that keepers of snakes get bitten and so I never kept any deadly specimens for longer than was necessary.

There is an even larger sub-species that comes from West Africa and this is the one typically found in the pet trade.

I love it. Great post. I love snakes too - bred the non-poisonous ones since 1995. Here's my new baby - she's just 2 months old. Hangs out on my chair while I am voting.

@sponge-bob this one's cute
not scary :D

Yeah, she is a honey. With the tutie-fruitie colors, I can't see her every getting an attitude (though I had one like this years ago and it really did). I hope to have video of her for you soon.

@sponge-bob is that an albino Burmese python? will love to have one damn beautiful....

The big pythons are great... until you start contemplating luring street urchins to your house... It's a full time job finding food for them once they get really big.

Seems like I will have to put up many more reptile posts then... for your baby to check out while you're voting.

You may want to follow this guy too. @herpetologyguy

I wish I were a better photographer! I will likely be posting more of my 3 year old Boa out at the park soon. She was entered in a contest here ages ago...

Photo entry post and Other photo entry post

Then I will put up more of my little albino berm.

I believe the correct terminology is "Danger noodle".
They scare me.

You post a wide variety of posts. I truly appreciate that. Good stuff. The patterns on that snake truly are pretty amazing.

I have wide variety of interests... generally not people related... therefore I have amassed an absolute trove of "worthless" information over the years...

I believe I am guilty of that particular pleasure as well.

Asperger's syndrome perhaps?

Who knows.... perhaps.

I love snakes! I had a pet garter snake for about 12 years when I was growing up...

Any pics?

Not of him no... however he looked identical to this one I caught a couple months ago, he was just bigger :)

I cut my teeth on those little guys. Awesome @jrcornel !

ahhh i am so afraid of snakes... skin crawly...wouldnt say hate cause they are what they are. But woo, these give me chills

That's understood, but its a learned fear that can be overcome... I have helped many over this hurdle.

Very interesting! Upvoted and resteemit ;)

Looks really beautiful!

@gavvet it's pretty but very deadly

That is a really cool snake. I have never seen that one before.

When I lived in Idaho I captured a rattle snake and brought it back home arranging a large glass aquarium for it. Nine months went past without the rattle snake eating despite buying mice. At about the 9th month it struck the mouse and devoured it with its unhinged jaws. That was spectacular watching. When I left Idaho I took the snake back out into the desert along the Snake River and released it. Neat experience.

Interesting experience, how long did you have it altogether.

Pet shop mice don't smell like wild mice... therefore no feeding response from a wild captured specimens initially.

Had it for a year. Nine months went by before it finally ate the the mouse from the pet shop. Should have let the mouse run around in the wild for awhile.

tenho pavor de cobras, mas a postagem é bem interessante
