SoCal Steemit had another meetup!

This month @Mariannewest organized a meetup for us in San Diego. And she had an entire day worth of fun planned!

Comic Con was going on this week and the city was packed with people making parking a nightmare. The trolley was cheap, easy, and actually quite fun! My day started early. I woke up and made some food for the potluck we had planned and then headed outside to toss a little water on my garden. I got the food, and the new banner and stickers I had made for the group, all loaded into the truck. @Csusbgeochem1 met me at my house and we carpooled in my truck for the drive from San Bernardino down to San Diego. The traffic wasn't bad and we got down there a little early. We met @Mariannewest at her house in Lemon Grove. She showed us her garden where she is growing all kinds of great stuff. Her whole front and back yard is filled with fruits and veggies and flowers! And she also introduced us to her flock of chickens and two little dogs. Then we got ready and headed down to the trolley station to catch a trolley down to the location of the meetup. We decided to take the trolley because the

The trolley got us downtown really quick and so we still had some extra time to kill. So we took a quick stop to check out the San Diego Public Library a huge nine story library! We went all the way to the top and got to see an incredible view over the city and even out to the ocean. After that we started walking to the park where everyone was going to meet. As we got closer we got more and more into the craziness that is Comic Con. Thousands of people dressed in all kinds of crazy costumes! All kinds of wild stuff everywhere! It's so much to see in every direction it's almost overwhelming.

There was this beautiful fountain...

...but oddly enough there was a car in it! Just one of MANY strange sights

We continued walking along constantly being amazed by all the incredible characters there. But at a certain point we realized we had walked passed the spot and hadn't even seen it! So we turned around and headed back. But when we got there we realized why we had missed it... the area we had planned to use was already being used for some kind of a haunted house attraction. I'm not exactly sure what it was but there was definitely a huge line to check it out. We were a little disappointed to not get that spot but we found a grassy area nearby that was not to crowded and had some seats. So we decided to setup there and hoped to still be able to meet with the others. We tied up the banner to a couple of the seats in hopes it would help them see us. We waited and watched and before long we saw @Improv and @Stinawog come walking up. It was my first time meeting both these Steemians! They told us there was a better spot about a block away so we headed over there where we found a nice area with some nice pine trees providing some relief from the sun. We got the banner back up and I sent out the message on discord about our location just incase anyone else was showing up. And then shortly our final arrival @Eyedreemit made it to the party! This was my first time meeting her as well! We played some "get to know each other games", had some light snacks, and chatted away! Mostly about Steemit of course, but we also talked about all kinds of interesting stuff! Everyone was friendly and very fun to get to know. Once we decided to wrap up the meeting we made sure to get a group photo and I made sure everyone got some of the new stickers.

After the meetup we split up and @Improv and @Stinawog went to go enjoy more of the craziness going on at Comic Con while the rest of us opted for a walk down to a less busy area of town called Little Italy. It was a pleasant walk among lots of huge city buildings. After our walk through Little Italy @Eyedreemit headed home and then the three of us headed back to the trolley. We took a different route this time giving us new sights on the return trip.

Another sight that we found interesting was this window washer with his giant pole

The ride was fun and we saw a bunch more interesting people, got to see the San Diego river, the old football stadium, and at one point went into a cave that went through a hill and underneath the university! There was even an underground trolley stop for the people going to and from the university. When we got back to @Mariannewest's house we were all hungry, so we pulled out the food and went out on the backyard patio for a very enjoyable meal. After a bit @Improv and @Stinawog showed up and also joined us for dinner. After eating we just jumped right back into conversation. With a quick break to deal with some runaway chickens, and then back into chatting! It is just so much fun talking with people who are also passionate about Steemit like I am. This is one reason why I think growing communities like SoCal Steemit is really important for the future growth of Steemit. After talking for awhile @Improv pulled out a deck of cards and we were going to play some card games... but we got distracted with more Steemit talk and before you know it, it was getting dark and although I wanted to stay and play some cards we still had a 2 hour drive back to San Bernardino. So me and @Csusbgeochem1 had to say goodbye and head home.

I think this meetup was a great success and I'm looking forward to next month where we are actually planning to have TWO meetups!! Booyaa! I can't wait. And to wrap this up I just want to thank each and every person in the SoCal Steemit community, each and every one of you are what makes our awesome group so awesome!

Hi @steemcafe. I'd love to meet! I see @mariannewest says sunday works for her, and that also works for me. So if sunday sounds good to you just let me know when and where. And I'm available saturday also, if that works better for you. I look forward to it!

What a great post and gathering, Derek. Many interesting things to see besides the meetup. That car did not look right in the pool. 🙃 I loved seeing Marianne’s sunflowers and chickens.

Thanks @redheadpei! It was a full day of interesting things from start to finish.

Seems a lot is going on in my old romping town. :)

It was crazy packed with people for Comic Con! I couldn't believe the never ending crowds.

Oh now that sounds cool! I have never been to comic con but have always wanted to go.

It was really interesting. I'm not into crowds so that kinda sucks for me, but I love weird stuff and there was weird stuff EVERYWHERE! So that was pretty cool.

I think it is so wonderful that you get to gather! Here in the Ozarks many of us have met as well.

That Library! Perhaps someday I will travel that direction. Seems lovely.

Yes, I remember when Papa Pepper went and visited you and some of the other Steemians out there! I thought that was cool. Maybe someday he'll come say hi to our SoCal group! Oh, and that library was incredible! The amount of books was staggering. And they had this really cool "room of ancient books" that we got to go in!

Fantastic! I’d love to meet up next time! I go to SDCC every year exce t this one. 15 outta 16 ain’t too bad I guess. Lol. Next time I’d love to meet up with fellow Steemians.oves reading and seeing this!

Too bad you missed it! Just let me, or @socalsteemit, or @mariannewest know if you're coming to SoCal and we'll be happy to plan a meetup!!

Too kind. I’ll definitely take you up on that!! I usually head out to Cali once or twice a year. So expect me to bother you guys when that happens!!

What a great post!!!! Love it!!! And it was so much fun!!! If you are meeting up with Steemcafe and crew - let me know. I told them I can meetup on Sunday - but if you are hanging with them on a different day, I meet up with you all :)

Sunday works for me too! Heck ya. Just tell me where and when. I'll reply to @steemcafe as well right now.

Cool!! This time, I bring my camera LOL

Looks amazing! All of it, the backyard, the people, the Comic-con adventures and being with other steemit peeps in person :)

Good to see some meet ups taking place here in the USA , there was one recently in Texas that I wish I could have made it to but already had a wedding to go to that day. Looks like ya'll had a good time even though it was just a handful of folks. Thanks for sharing the pictures and the story.

Our SoCal group keeps growing! And we're planning more and more stuff. I'm so excited. Steemit is already awesome, but having a community of Steemians that you can get to know in real life just makes it that much more awesome! We've had up to 15 people and as little as 3, but no matter what it's always a blast! Next time they have one near you you should definitely go. I don't think you'll regret it.

Yea, I will try and make the next one local to me for sure.

sounds like you guys had a ton of fun! i was actually part of the crazy comic con crowd this past weekend hahaha. (seriously, TONS of people...you guys are brave for planning it that same weekend!) Hoping I can make it out to a meetup with you guys soon!

Hey @corinneiskorean! Comic Con was so crazy! I had no idea. We have more meetups coming up. Check the @socalsteemit account or our discord server to get any info about meetups. I think we're planning on doing at least 2 next month!!

You actually took me around with you. I felt I was on a tour around San Diego. I love it when Steemians meet up, the last time we had a meet up here was last year. The community is what makes us stronger and grow.

I know right! I've only been to San Diego a few times in my life so I didn't know anything and Marianne really gave me a full tour! It was awesome. Riding the trolley around made it nice and easy too. I'm really excited about the community we are building here in SoCal. It really takes some effort but I'm so happy to see it getting bigger and stronger everyday!

Man, this make me so jealous. I wish I lived near a group of steemians to meet and discuss things. I guess I need to do a better job of recruiting people near my area! Thanks for sharing.

Hate to rub it in, but ya, it's AWESOME. lol. I'd think there has be at least a few Steemians around your area. You just gotta find em! New people are always joining too and I think eventually Steemit communities will be popping up all over. And hey, If you ever travel to SoCal we'd love to have you come meet with us @papacrusher!!

Wow! Wow! Wow! How I wish I have a magic door... I can open the door and walk right through to join you all there! You all really have awesome fun there!

Thanks @elizacheng. We did have so much fun! I'm sorry I don't have a magic door for you, so I hope just the pictures will be good enough. lol!

Your photos are awesome! We all love meetup and will never get tired of it...

That meetup looks fun. It's great knowing there are many communities in steemit that are not just purely online. :3 the garden patio looks great and san diego sure looks like a fun place to go sightseeing. ^^
