Steem is on sale right now so it's a good time to power up. To transfer steem dollars into steem;
Top right of the page, 3 bar dropdown --> Currency Market --> Lower left under buy steem click Available --> fields should auto fill (if not refresh page and try again) --> Buy Steem
This will let you purchace Steem with your Steem Dollars. It will appear usually in moments in your wallet as Steem, which you can then power up.
To power up --> Wallet --> dropdown arrow next to Steem --> Power up
Doing all of this will increase your voting power fairly quickly :)

Great catch on fast-tracking the crisp abomination, this technology is notorious for its lack of precison and uncontrollable side effects.
One comment on black swans - these risks are either impossible to predict or too resource intensive to attempt to predict or prepare for. In Taleb’s own words this is reason enough to forego this attempt and instead aim to become antifragile. GSM, global cooling and the first, second (and likely third) order effects are predictable, thus there’s no excuse for not preparing for them - that is beside the criminality of governments and the elites and the braindead public’s attitude and lack of critical thinking.
