Yeah, you bring up some great points! People's brains are wired to see numbers and it feels like you have to invest in your own posts via bots to attract people to your site and then who knows if they will even upvote or comment. As a new user here (under 2 months) I can see that there are what you call whale orgies and a bunch of other people kind of begging to either get a donation or upvote. It's hard to think this is what the vison of the platform was intended for. However, it seems like the natural way the world works...the rich help each other out and the poor try to appeal to the rich for help.
I don't do any other social media other than steemit so for me its just fun making posts and trying to build an audience. I believe in the use case for this blockchain and want to do my best to add quality content and hopefully share some of what I have to offer to others and have a positive​ impact on their life.
