RE: What are your thoughts on Self Help Books?

in #spirituality6 years ago

I find them to be stupid and a waste of money. Read one once and learned nothing. Go into the real world and actually practice getting skills and learning to develop friends and networking for business. There is not much you can't learn off Youtube or from a meetup for free.

I like self-help books that combines wisdom with practical advice that you can take-away and implement. Some books I have read is all wisdom, which is useful, but no real strategy of how to implement this new fond knowledge into real life. A balance between the two is the ideal self-help book for me.

To each his own! But for me the answer is get a dog and go into the real world and just start falling till you learn to walk! No one can tell you how to be successful you have to learn it by trial and error! Best lesson I ever learned cost me over $100k USD which at the time was more money than I could dream of loosing but looking back got me into Bitcoin early and now i'm very happy it happened! Instead of college, I dropped out and realized it was best to invest into myself! My first 3 business ventures all failed or didn't make me rich, but this last one is the king so far and am VERY happy for it all! Most of my friends either never went to school and work min wage jobs OR are in over $100k of debt and still most of them work barely above entry level service jobs.. LOL so much for the college myth!

Inspiring thought being shared but we are still dwelling in a society that makes the college diploma a key to prestige and social acceptance. Would love to connect with you @bigdeej :)

FUCK college lol ALL my "educated" college friends make less than I do or worse work min wage jobs to pay off debt for a degree that did nothing for them! All the people I work with dropped out and made a fortune in cryptocurrency, software design, FOSS, and other fields without debt and degrees lol! HMU anytime I'm @bigdeej almost everywhere! Also run @shadowbot here ;)

You have a good point! The internet makes it so easy to learn things every day, that nobody has an excuse not to learn... what self help book have you read before? There are some pretty good ones, but I prefer the practice rather than the reading!

Only one was Rich Dad Poor Dad (which he does online videos of now for free). There really is no reason today to pay for "Self Help". It is like working out, you need to either self motivate or get motivated from someone else, a book or dvd or program that sits on the shelf is worthless. Plus most of these books are in the library for free these days too.. I just find DOING is the best path forward. I didn't wait for school to teach me, I learned and began teaching the class, then dropped out to run my own software company and then got into digital marketing and develop the software for it, then got involved in cryptocurrency <3! I don't need someone to tell me how to do something.

Your drive to succeed is an inspiration!!! Not letting anyone or anything stop you from achieving your dreams, it is a choice that you make, great work with making the right choice and t fight hard. I'm sure it hasn't always been smooth sailing <3

No but it led to where I am now, running @shadowbot and developing @shadowbook <3 The future is coming!
