The Astros never led the game until the bottom of the 12th inning. Houston allowed a 3 run home run early and responded with a couple runs of their own in the same inning. The score was still 3-2 going into the bottom of the ninth.
Two one out singles gave Houston runners on first and third. A sacrifice fly scored the tieing run. The Royals escaped the inning allowing just the one run but that's all the Astros needed for new life.
The tenth and eleventh innings went by without much offense before the Astros got the lead off walk in the bottom of the 12th inning. A single and intentional walk followed loading up the bases with no outs. Houston had gone from bottom of the 9th with 1 out and no one on and needing a run to survive to bottom of the 12th tied game with bases loaded and no outs. It was quite a swing and it was all set up perfectly for Carlos Correa's walk off single.
