Solo Paddle

What is a sport? How do you define it? I know that growing up everything from swimming to soccer to hockey for me was a sport because there was competition involved. It was important to win in some way and be better than others. As I grew up my preference of sport changed and now I embrace diving, paddling and hiking as a sports. There is a lot less competition in those.

What’s you definition? How and why do you embrace the sport of your choosing?

Sport is what's real to you. What makes you feel in a war. One of the thinks that drives you. That's what sport is to me.

Hi Scott,
Can I ask you a question? You have beautiful photography and I see that you have won a LOT of photo contests. Congratulations!! I just won one of Julian's contests. However, I don't know how to find out which picture won. If you read this, could you please tell me how to find out.

Congrats on winning, I'm glad you did! As for finding out what categories you win in, go to your wallet page and see what you won for and then click on that category. Once it appears then scroll through all the enteries and yours should be listed there. Good luck with future contests and I will follow your progress. Thanks for checking out my work.

For me, your sports are difficult although I admire you for practicing them and enjoying them. For my part I enjoy see it you perform them and just i will jog...Greetings

sports to me is finding something that gives you pleasure and fun other than work

Great definition! Then I can just sit in the couch knitting on a sweater and watch TV and call that a sport ;)

True that. When my students ask me if darts is a sport in my opinion. I always answere with no, although it is really hard to be the best.

It's a beauty of nature brother.
I expect you become reach your journey.
thanks a lot brother for sharing....

Nice posta

It's a difficult one - competition is one aspect. So is having to master a skill. So does that make playing chess a sport?

What is the difference between sport and a game? Does sport need to have physical exertion? But then does that make snooker and darts games?

Love the question, and that photo isn't bad either!

A sport is anything that gets your heart rate going to me. So things like paddling definitely count. I think some people only consider "team sports" to be sports sometimes but that isn't true for me!

Hiking is one hell of a sport :).

I totally agree! Hiking is definitely a sport...

That is an amaziiiing capture, would love to get more pictures like this in future, keep up the good work mate.

Yeah, nice posts and nice Pictures @scottdphoto
Like you do a lot of things in photography.
Amazing, i like that 👍👏

Oftentimes only things that are physical and team-oriented are considered sports, but really anything that is a competition where you constantly strive to do better than others/yourself/nature is a type of sport.
Even photography can be a sport! It may not have points that are allotted by a judge or referee, but some days you just have fun shooting, and some days you actually win!

As a Martial Arts I have often came across this question myself. To me Martial Arts are a "sport" because we are training our bodies while embracing the contact and more physically demanding parts of it.

I embrace Karate, Taijutsu, and my Sword Arts because they give me a chance to seek a balance. A balance that may help me to be stronger. Whether this be mentally or physically I become transformed thru the experience.

sport - is life!

I appreciate it that I understood where I should see what you wrote this post. It's Interesting post,
kept me engaged

Sungguh foto yang luarbiasa teman, saya sangat menghargainya

The tranquility of being out there in the calm waters and the silence only broken by the splash of the oar and the water breaking the plane, not just a sport but a mental break away from the hustle and bustle of the world.
Sports to me was always about just the feeling of a good workout, but these days its just the small time to sit back meditate ones mind away from the commotions of the world.
Love the picture, it one of serenity.

Where was this one taken? I posted a dual paddle this am too :) That said, I love being in a kayak

Great entry! I asked myself the exact same question today, before posting my entry to the Sports Photography contest. I had some great photos of hiking, but is that a sport? What about hiking with skis in the mountains? I eventually made my conclusion; everything that needs some stamina, strength and maybe even courage can be called a sport? :) Helen

Nice! For me sport would be about the challenge. Either against others or against yourself. Not just a hobby, but something that pushes you to do better. Even if better might be as simple as holding your breath longer, or being able to peddle further with out stopping.

Very similar, as a kid I was a national level swimmer, since I quit at 18 I've just done sports for my own enjoyment. First Climbing, then Cycling and Triathlon. I love climbing and tri in particular nowadays because there's something really individual about both! Oh, and the occasional bit of Ninja Warrior when they have me on the show ;)

Great shot! 🙂

Wow, that's so nice! I want to try this. With this view I can't say no.

Sport is any competition of skill with others or with yourself. I think people confuse athletics as the only form sport, but we can make competition from almost anything.

Shooting videos in Stanley Park is my latest sport :) It involves a lot of cycling, walking and sometimes a bit of running.

I strap a tripod to my back and can cover a large amount of space in a short amount of time; getting off the bike and setting up the tripod quickly is always challenge; sometimes I miss the subject/action, other times I get the footage :)

Or, I'll just go for a walk with tripod extended, camera mounted; this is the golfing like stage of my sport :) I never know what might be around the next corner and I'm ready to shoot whatever it might be! Now and then, I find myself running with tripod in hand to position myself for the ideal pan of the beaver/otters/raccoons/birds/etc.

The best part of my sport is that it gets me outdoors breathing that fresh air and witnessing some of the best that nature has to offer in a beautiful urban park; all within a short ride from home :)

I would say that sport is a activity capable of achieving a result through physical exertion and skill, often undertaken competitively.
Also, it's something you enjoy and something that make your live better and healthier :)

Sport is a way of relaxing.
I like diving, skiing and spinning.
It feels so good

Gorgeous photograph

I like this photos,I also like sports,the hiking,running . : )

To me, sports helps to bring myself and others together. Sports usually involves teamwork, and through that we learn what is working together all about, knowing each other, how we can support each other, learning of sportsmanship and what attitude we wanted to carry. It brings us out of who we are. At the same time, it also allows us to dig deeper within ourselves what best can we give as an individual and to the team

really cool shot! where did you shoot it?

sport is just something to get active and feel good afterwards :) no matter what.

My sport is kitesurfing, kiteboarding, snow kiting. I'm a wind mania. Only wind make feel free from all problems.. Fantastic sport.

Beautiful photo! I'm a climber/hiker/yogi and I love those things because there's no competition involved. Climbing is typically a joint effort, sharing tips and helping each other along. That's my favorite part of it :)

Good question, as a Dutch sportteacher I get these guestions a lot. Like what sport is best and is Darts a sport? I think a proper sport is when you when you physically have to move and you should have a goal to reach.

My sport of choice in high school was swimming. If you ever participated in competive swimming you understand that it is not a sport for the mentally weak or those who just want to have fun. Through swimming I learned that to truly immerse yourself in a sport you have to fall in love with it and it requires a deep routed commitment and determination if you really want to excel. There is nothing pretty about doing lap after lap, staring at a black line at the bottom of the pool. To do this and to do it well requires a level of grit that not everyone has the capacity for. Swimming also comes with a great deal of pressure. If you don’t do well in an individual race it’s all on you. To be successfully in swimming you must also take pride in every victory, every improvement, regardless how small it is. You must rejoice with every 10th or even 100th of a second that is shaved off of your time. For me, sport isn’t necessarily about winning or being the best. It’s about digging deep, believing in yourself and improving in the skills you are working on.

That's the difference between practice sports in his life, or use the sport to live ! Nice photography.

Nice pic 👏

it think this sport is fair compared to American football...where persons could actually break their bones...what don you think...?

How can it be a win win situation?
