One of the most important moment in the life of every student is the period of examination, this is a time when the student really proves that he/ she has learnt to a great extent what was being taught.
i am going to be sharing some important study tips that will help you prepare for your exams and i assure that you are going to love it.
EFFECTIVE STUDY TIPS
for the purpose of easy understanding, i will group this tips into three (3) categories which are
- the study work
- take a break
- the big plan
THE STUDY WORK.
As a student, i must tell you that there is no short cut to success, if you must succeed, you have to strive for it, and there is only one way to strive and that is to study.
Here are some important points on study work
Give enough time to effective study:
most students are awakened by the fear of examination time tables being out, and that is the time they tend to become more serious and studious but i must tell you that while this method works for some people, it might not work for you. what are you to do then? a popular saying says that "he who fails to plan plans to fail" the most effective way to give enough time to study is starting from the onset of academic activities. Here you just spend a little time to go through the previous semesters work which will aid you in understanding the new work ahead, then you slowly migrate into the new semesters work. As you do this, there is one very important attribute you should have and that forms our next point in the study work.self organisation:
this is one of the most important study habit. being able to be well organised. this includes a lot of things like how arranged and spacious your study environment is; a well arranged table will help you spread out as much books as possible, it also gives yo a sense of responsibility, also help to reduce distractions. you should also consider taking away anything that has the potential of driving out your concentration from studying like video games, computers and your phone if possible any any other thing you find interest in other than studying, then study in a cool environment. i discovered that some people do enjoying studying with a mild music playing but which ever way that works best for you just make the best our of it.introducing memorization techniques
through my little time of studying, i noticed that while some people assimilate thing more faster, others do not. Using myself as an example, sometimes i have to go through a little piece of writing over and over again before i can memories them, but there are some effective way of memorizing things which one can adopt when studying which includesuse of mnemonics
use of flow charts
use of diagrams
using key note to compose a short music
memory pictures
the above memorization techniques have proved to be very effective and has helped studens over the years of which i am one.personal test and practice
this is another important way of preparing for your examinations, setting a personal quiz or practicing the previous past questions is an effective way of studying, it is important to note that lecturers do not manufacture questions rather they tend to change some parameters in the previous questions, i have heard students discuss this a lot of time and i do advice that if you have not tried this before, you should take a deep look into it. in you personal practice you should also try to explain your answers to other, this can be people in you study group or a friend who you think knows it better, this will help you to be sure of the right answer as one of my friends usually say that "people can do the wrong thing well". telling someone a possible answer to a ample question when studying will help you to be sure that you know it.set up a study group
a study group is not necessarily a group of people who sits down together to read a book at the same time but a group of people who gather at their spare time to cross examine each other and be sure of knowing what they have studied. having a study group is very helpful because sometimes its your group members that motivates you to read and also burn the midnight candle.
in choosing your study group, ensure you choose friend who have the same mindset as you and not people that will lure you into ill practice as a popular saying says "show me your friends and i will tell you who you are". your friend defines you so in choosing one be very careful.
TAKE A BREAK
Come to think of this, an athlete who is preparing for a marathon does not run all day for it, so it should be with you also, as you are preparing for your examination you should take regular breaks and you should know the best time you like studying; if its in the morning, afternoon or night and you should utilize them well, spend enough time to eat food that will supply you enough energy, have enough rest and take lots of water because it helps your body system a lot.
THE BIG PLAN
Plan for your exam day, you must have been familiar with the exam settings and the things required for you to be with in the examination hall with, get all of them ready before your exams, plan on the corner to seat with in other to avoid distractions and also plan on how you will answer the questions then finally BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!
GOOD LUCK.
