As many of you guys already know, good management plus innovation and design thinking strategy are principles that help an organization´s viability in the short and long run. In my former blog post, I indicated : Why Steemit should kick the Ass of Major exchanges / Trading Platform like Poloniex and Start its Own see here . This is because of issues we steemians constantly have with trading platform like Poloniex with regard to Steem and SBD which was raise by some members : @barrydutton , @teamsteem , @fyrstikken and @krnel (to mention just few) and subsequent advice was given.
In light of this aforementioned issue and the need to add revenue stream to steem ecosystem, I am convinced that management of steem should think of ways to incorporate steem debit card -which will help members easily spend their steem or steem dollars without going to a third party. If done prudently, this will certainly move the playing field to our advantage and subsequently, add a solid revenue stream to steem ecosystem. Some great Steemians , : @infovore , @ausbitbank , @donkeypong , @gtg, @timcliff , @blueorgy and @stephenkendal (to mention just few) have written extensively on the power of steem ecosystem and its growing member base and the need to even innovate further and tap into the greatness of steem ecosystem. This should not be ignored, rather the debate should begin.
Why steem debit card will be great for all
- Members being able to access their money worldwide
- Fast and less stress because no need to login to the internet to access funds
- Best security due to steem solid blockchain technology
- There are many content creatures in steem ecosystem so it makes perfect sense
- The stability of SBD which moves in tandem with USD makes it an awesome fit
- Ability to use Steem debit card to buy steem directly from the internal market , thus leading to faster and cheaper transaction
I do understand that steem is still on its infancy (still on beta) and all these ideas might sound like a big noise. Moreover, some debit card providers ( Payza , Bitwala ) have steem in their debit card service- however just like Poloniex et al , there are limitations to these providers and having our own debit card will be a game changer. Importantly, I am not saying that it should be done now, rather let the conceptualization begin. Dreaming big , having great ideas and prudent implementation are what makes an innovative and successful company.
Note: this can even be done via Joint venture (JV) , Partnership or even M&A ....

Soooo easy a bird can do it !!!! Hahahaha

Totally agree. The current system holds Steem back from acting as a full currency and it has this amazing potential that at the moment is restricted by reliance on unstable 3rd parties. Steem will rocket and steemit will flourish with an innovation like this! Great post.
Thanks for your comment, good point. Keep steeming to more success.
While I upvoted this post and like the idea of having a Steem debit card, there's some perspective that I have and would like to add here.
Steem is the main currency of Steemit Inc. If Steemit provide a debit card, liquidity of Steem will increase and people would easily cash out.
However, what the easy liquidity will do is to reduce the number of Steem on the blockchain in an uncontrolled fashion. Eventually, it would be theoratically possible to convert every Steem to fiat money through the debit card.
There would be another issue too; massive powering down by Steem Power holders to have liquid Steem available for use via Steem debit card.
I do not think that this scenario will be suitable for the Steem ecosystem. I wonder how Steemit Inc. (@ned, @dan, @dantheman) and Steem witnesses like @ausbitbank, @timcliff, @good-karma, @blueorgy, @aggroed and many more think about the issue. It would be interesting to know about their opinion on the matter.
What I do want (and it won't leak Steem out) is the ability to purchase Steem directly from the internal market using Debit/Credit cards. It would make it easier to invest in Steem and Steem Power. Buying Bitcoin, then trading Bitcoin for Steem, then sending Steem to Steemit wallet and then powering up is such a long and complicated process.
Having a Steem debit card with some limitation (daily, weekly, monthly limits on withdrawals) is a viable idea and I would love to have that two-way convenience of spending and buying Steem via a Steem debit card.
Well creating a way buy STEEM directly from the internal Market would also do the reverse , creating a quick way to sell STEEM and causing that liquid issue you spoke of. 😵
For Steem to be sold from the internal market, is it compulsory that 'that' Steem comes from Steemians? People shouldn't be able to sell their Steem for fiat in the internal market in my suggestion. The Steem which would be made available for purchase should be allocated separately by Steemit Inc. Otherwise, selling will surely cause the issue you mentioned.
@blueorgy @charles1
Good point about causing too much liquidity...
What about an internal market where STEEMIT members can 'sell' up to $25 steem per week. But these sells can only be sold internally to other steemit members? I would do that. Well.....I would buy STEEM/STEEMPOWER. I would have bought already 2-3 times at $25 each/purchase. The question would be how to handle my fiat cash to get it into the Steemit market.
Anyway, I like discussing ideas that can lead to great innovations!!
Thanks for chiming in @bluorgy
Peace!! ✌
Great point..innovation is always welcome. Following you now in order to stay in touch and send in my support.
Very good point @ilyastarar hence why I indicated that its time to start the discussion. Successful organisations always have pragmatic discussion about their future and if its impobbile to implement, then they work on solutions. Thanks
Welcome. I mentioned your post in my latest post as well which is based on this comment of mine (which honestly beats the average length of Steemit post by some inches). Let the discussion begin and let's see where it leads to.
welcome

What would be the difference to use a BitWala debit card? You can use Steem with it as well. Is that hurting the ecosystem as you mentioned?
Thanks for grouping me in with the "Great Steemians" very kind of you! Defiantly some interesting thoughts here here. 🤔
Thanks @blueorgy for your insight and upvoting my post..its always good to start a debate isnt it? thanks and keep steeming.
It is a long and sometimes arduous process to move SBD or Steem into fiat. Not that we all cash out earnings from our posts, but it is a necessary off ramp for the attraction of more people to this ecosystem. Solid article, as usual, @charles1.
Welcome @lydon.sipe very good comment indeed and I like it when all send in their own view point...great that we are talking about the concept
I had this dream four months back - https://steemit.com/dream/@papa-pepper/my-dream-for-steem - where thought about the future when we could have a debit card tied to a special part of our wallet and spend directly from our steemit account.
Check mine out!
(Don't worry, those aren't my real steemit debit card numbers... I used the ones from my MasterCard to throw people off! LOL)
Now that would be Awesomeness !!💳💳💳
hahah @karenmckersie I added your bird to my post..awesome lady ...
LOL! Cool !! Im glad you liked it haha !🐦🐦🐦👍
Yes, thanks for your comment.
wow, that look great and will certainly be a great idea. Many people are scared of change or innovation and thus against such product however some companies did not attain greatness with fear of innovation...thanks for your comment.
Great concept, i think there is also room for a direct steem exchange market. Why do we have to buy bitcoin and then convert through poloniex etc... and vice versa? I am a curator wanting to buy, i am sure many bloggers would sell with pleasure directly to me...
Good point, I wrote about it in my other blog post , thanks for your comment
Very correct and nice comment
Why not but only if the fee are low. Because on steem advantage is the no fee transaction.
Good point, I agree
Awesome post ! I totally agree as well ! The easier the better as far as im concerned !! Upped and resteemed my friend ! 👍👍👍
Haha ! Soooo easy a bird can do it !!!! 🐦🐦🐦🐦
Hahahahah I will love to add this funny bird in this post..will try it out..hahahahahahahahaha
awesome lady.
This is a great idea - even though I have only been here a month I am sticking around because I do believe big things are still to come. Great post - resteeming
Thank you so much for resteeming hopefully management will see it and join the discussion
Great to think of the big vision of this, but I wonder if the management is around listening to us.
That is the problem @achraf7b I am sure that they dont even see all the constructive suggestions in my blog posts..
However we should keep steeming..
cool ideas
welcome
Great stuff, @charles1! I'm convinced that all these applications will come. There are infinite possibilities to scale the idea of Steem/Steemit. Another example is the decentralized video hosting which has been perfectly picked up by @furion launching Viewly.
I'm totally sure that we're going to pay with a Steem Card one day. It's a logial consequence of the ongoing progress.
All these exchange platforms have a lot of vulnerability issues. It doesn't only happen to Poloniex. Last week Bittrex had frozen all BTC withdrawals and deposits for a couple of days. It feels horrible if you can't access your own money.
Plus the payment sector is promising for another reason: affilliate business.
Exciiiiiiting times to come! :)
Resteemed
Thanks a lot for the resteem . Good comment indeed. I think that the future of the steem ecosystem is bright and my intention for writing this post plus my former post about getting our own trading platform is to at least start the discussion and if ok, then the conceptualization phase-this is how innovative companies do business. It can even be via JV , partnership or M&A. thanks for all your support my surfing buddy..one day,we gonna swim with the sharks (together? hmmmmmm)
sounds like nice ideas.. go on....
thats why i resteem it :)
The same here, hope it works out for all
so all we can do ... is sit and wait... maybe now you have a song in your head :D
nice idea n it would be great
I hope so..thanks for your comment
yes u re 100%right good managment is 1st thing to start a great idea....and also thanx @charles1 for upvote my post and appriciate me i also upvote u and i will upvote u daily ur posts...thanx alot
You are welcme my friend, more success to you

cool idear. Please upvote and follow also me. https://steemit.com/deutsch/@mabre/hallo-steemians-dankeschoen-hello-steemians-thank-you
Schon..Danke
A steemit credit card would be absolutely amazing ;)
definitely a next step for steemit mass adaption :)
I agree, thanks
I like it.
Thanks
Great idea I'm all for it.
The easier it is to access your cash, the better. This would increase the user base.
Good point, that is the purpose of the concept
Excellent work dear friend @ charles1 congratulations on the subject tackled a lot of interez.
Having a personalized debit card of the platform would be ideal and convenient for all users, I hope this becomes a reality, thank you very much for mentioning it
Have a great day
Thanks for your comment @jlufer you are always welcomed.
my sentiments exactly, i think the ability to change steem into fiat with be a great advantage for steem and would even raise the value of steem, steem is now in the shadow of bitcoin as most of us have to change to bitcoin before changing to our desired spend currency
Good point, thanks
Perhaps an idea whose time has come ? That would add credibility to STEEM as a crypto .
Good point, thanks for your comment
I just bought some Whiskey with my Bitwala card that arrived this morning. So Happy :D
haha , good one indeed
Upvoted and also resteemed :)
Thanks
This will be a cool idea to adopt in the long run.
Good point.
It definitely eliminates the barrier newbies have with turning their steem into fiat. I think it's a terrible idea in the long term.
However good to have a good debate isnt it?
I think everyone would love to see a Steem credit card but it's a complex thing to achieve.
Maybe it could be done through tenx or blockpay or other already existing technology bridging crypto and credit card.
Good point..at least great that we are talking about it.. joint venture is also an option..thanks for your comment...am very gratefull that you commented.
Once again your suggestion @charles1 portrays your MIT background on strategy and innovation garnished by Warwick EMBA...great suggestion as I hope steem management who are innovators themselves should have this in the pipeline...
Upvoted as always...
you are welcome, always.
thanks
keep steeing
@charles1 I must say that I like the direction that this conversation is going, but I have to agree that a Steem debit card may not be the best use of the developers time or the best thing for the platform. I as a person invested in Steem want to see the platform grow and more people holding into Steem so that it drives up the price (just being honest). A debit card in my opinion would create a situation where people are spending Steem like they would a regular currency. When I think of Steem I want it to be looked at as something that you want to hold and cannot get enough of and that you should be happy to have some. If people are spending it like fiat currency then some may see the value in it, but I see it differently. I want Steem to be looked at as a rare commodity not so much as a currencies to be compared to everything else out there that already exists. Just my opinion!
Your opinion is very solid and welcomed...however remember that in steem ecosystem there are steem , steem dollars and steem power. I was refering the steem dollars which people will always spend as most people dont power all up. Most people convert their SBD to bitcoin and spend it via bitcoin debit card so having our own platform and debit card might add value to the ecosystem and thus increase the value of steem.
In life, smart people will always know the power of long term investment and no matter what you do, others will spend all their earned coin. Do you know that some people here started last year when steem was very cheap and still they are under 500 steem power? haha . Thanks for your comment
@charles1 if it is just SBD then that is a slightly different scenario. However, to be honest I still do not think that I would be comfortable being that people could just transfer then Steem to SBD where it could be used. Just my opinion, but this is a good topic and it is good to see everyone's thought process on it.
Good point @mrwalt I agree. However, note that Payza ,´and Bitwala are offering such service for steem holders...innovation is key to success. I think that debate is great for brainstorming.
@charles1 I think that it is good that the technology exists and I'm not totally opposed to a debit card for Steem. However, I would like to see Steem consistently above $2 price for about 6 months before something like this rolled out (I just want to see the price of Steem stabilize first). Just my opinion
Good point. I even wish the price of steem to be 20 USD+ by end of next year..fingers crossed
@charles1 if Steemit does everything that they say that they are going to do like allowing people to sign up like you can with other sites, and etc it is a huge possible.
What would be the difference between an internal card and a BitWala card?
Thanks @charles1, the idea sound nice, let see if they will consider it. Nice article. Upvoted.
welcome and thanks for your response
Oooh, I like this idea!
Thanks for your comment
Very informative. I have upvoted abd shall follow u.
Thanks a lot, more success to you
That would be awesomely revolutionary and can totally see it happening. who's gonna start?
@kuenok thanks a lot for checking out my post and commenting. I agree who will start it? as management might not even see this post and the other posts where I suggested about creating our own trading platform. However, the good thing is that we are discussing about it and something good might come out-lets keep our fingers crossed.
What a fantastic thing it would be if there was a steem card! Great post love it
welcome, thanks

Thanks for your comment, keep steeming
Steem should never ever ever do this.
You see, right now steem is funny money. It doesn't exist, its not real.
And so Steem inc can get away with a lot of things.
As soon as it is tradeable for US$ in any shape or form, then what Steem Inc is doing is being a bank, and then they have to follow ALL of those regulations. And they are already in violation of many.
So, to do what you suggested is to kill Steem inc.
Its a political and legal nightmare. Don't go there.
Thanks for your comment..the point is to open a discussion . Remember that we get SDB online and then change it to steem or bitcoin. Moreover, some debit card offer steem service too
I am sorry, I do not follow.
What you proposed is death of Steem.
It doesn't matter what other companies do, just as long as its not Steem.
What you are suggesting is highly, extremely illegal.
Also, we are talking an area in which people die for stepping on the toe of the FED.
Scaremongering haha Payza and Bitwala have the option already isnt it?
your so called fed is against blockchain innovation including bitcoin. This post is just for discussion purpose and not to implement. Its left for management to do their DD prudently without being scared of your control freak fed. However, I appreciate your comment as it adds value to the discussion..thanks.
Sorry, I am not talking about scare mongering.
I am talking about real people, really dead or in prison for years for things like contempt of court.
Because bitcoin is completely decentralized and has no governing body or head office, that it is winning the fight against the FED.
Haven't you been watching as many exchanges have been taken down?
@builderofcastles your point about the power of fed is valid however as I stated this topic is about debating the pros and cons and not implementation. You are on the side of no due to issues with fed however if management want to go on yes side (in the future not now) then they have to resolve the issue withe USA Fed by changing location to Zug in Switzerland or any other safe heaven like Irland et al hahahahaha
Let's hope for best but we it would be great
Good point, same here
Great

this will be a great and at some point necessary tool !
looking forward for something like this...
but keep in mind.
it is very likely that the biggest problem about this might be about legal basis.
from a technical stand point everything is right in place.
but it is just a matter of time (even if legislation and politics are seem to stuck sometimes)
for now consider it as a missing exitpoint, which could be reasonable for this small market !
especially in such an emotional like steemit...
Good point, thanks for your comment
