Thanks for the update. This info came at the perfect time. I just noticed the flagging issue on the DollarVigilante posts and am trying to getting out whats going on.
As you know flagging should only be used for violations. As far as I can see there have been not violations in the post. The problem of flag abuse due to personality differences / disapproval of subject matter / jealousy has been growing. The planform needs an update asap to provide a list of easily accessible community rules and also additional functionality in the flagging feature with will require input regarding which rule was broken before one can insert a flag. This will help greatly.

Maybe they will just introduce voting on flags so we can flag a flag we disagree with and the battle can go to another level. It's flag inception!

I found the downvotes on the dollar vigilante's posts surprising really not sure if it is a deliberate act of trying to sabotage the platform though or whether it is just personal in the sense they don't like him or don't agree with him. The downvoting shouldn't be used that way though. Time will show what the true agenda is.
I think that the whole point of Steemit is people putting money where their mouth (opinion) is. It gives substance to the discussion that was never possible before. I have participated on early forums that adopted 'karma' systems and they were only as good as the moderators and politics. But political opinions cost nothing to put forward before, and cost little to overwhelm if you are well connected. But now it's an actual cost to your balance. This will change the balance of power as regards to gaining prominence.
Great time to be in this space! Steem is currently at it's cheapest now, great time accumulate steem power!
Excellent article Craig, whales that power down are providing me with an opportunity to get steem power at a discount price so I am very happy they exist. It reminds me of the opportunity that is provided by the federal reserve when they indirectly suppress the price of gold and silver to make the dollar look strong. Keep up the good work :) Cian

When you buy Steem Power, is the power permanent or temporary? Can I convert it back to BTC and cash out? Can I attain Steem Power without spending money?
Right now you have earned 9 cents on this comment, 50% of that 9 cents goes into your steem power, yes you can cash out 1% of your steem power per week
The power can be 'powered down' to steem at a rate of 1/104th every week. you can stop powering down after a week if all you want is 1/104th. But its basically guaranteed that they have it for a while which is why its so powerful, can't trade it instantly. Its holding long-term stocks in the network.

Thanks for the info craig, wasn't aware of that before. To be sincere I must say this I think that you are too much thinking about this all. Since you are thinking about conspiracies now, but I may be wrong. I fail to comprehend how would low steem price benefit those bitcoin whales here and why would they be against steemit. I would believe that they are smarter than to cash out so soon and bring price down so fast.
As for bitcoin price rising I believe it's recovering from theft last week and not from cashing out from steemit since last 24 h volume of steem is just around 1% of BTC volume for last 24 h. That 1% couldn't affect BTC. Those stats I'm bringing out are my conclusions of watching http://coinmarketcap.com/

The downvote button was only recently changed to a flag. This is why many people still refer to it as a "downvote". It was a downvote for much longer than it has been a flag.

I have learned so much in the short month I've been on Steemit!
I knew nothing of Cryptocurency, bitcoin..all of it. I'll admit I cashed out a decent chunk, but only to support my blogging and to help me acquire the means and material to blog more and re-invest. Steemit is definitely only going to get bigger and bigger and I SO want to be apart of it. It's not even just about the money and investments but the fun! Thank you for sharing.

It will be an epic battle. Being away from Steemit for a week was pretty crazy but it had to be done. I had to take care of my other business. So much seems to have changed.
