Accepting SBD/STEEM is not always necessary for stores. THEY COULD GIVE OUT FREE SBD/STEEM as a bonus!

Imagine you buy a hat or shirt. The store includes free SBD/STEEM as a bonus. BUT WAIT! There's more...

free-steem-with-every-purchase.jpg

Apparently steemitshop.com didn't accept SBD or STEEM when it was first created I was told. Now it does..

HOWEVER

If you're selling physical, tangible products, there is a cost-of-goods sold that needs to be funded. If you sell a shirt, send it by UPS, and accept SBD for that transaction, eventually that SBD has to be converted and sold to obtain U.S. Dollars to pay the UPS driver, the clothing wholesaler, the silkscreen printer or embroider, etc.

WHAT COULD BE A BETTER MODEL?

Accept fiat, pay your cost-of-goods, taking your profits, and as an added bonus give away some free SBD/STEEM

JUST WAIT! THERE'S MORE

  • There isn't free SBD/STEEM (because it is bought and paid for)
  • There is liquid SBD/STEEM on cryptoexchanges like Bittrex/Poloniex

Let's give some real world examples:

If you buy a living room set, they throw in a "Free Flat Screen TV"

  • Was the TV free? No, the cost of it was embedded in the price

If you buy a shirt, they throw in "$5 FREE SBD" or "5 FREE STEEM"

  • was the SBD/STEEM free? No, the cost of it was embedded in the price.

Now, this is not for you, as a customer, to know how it all works. All you should know is you bought a shirt and ended up with 5 FREE STEEM and you are happy.

This is for the merchant, who is invested in STEEM in some way, who wants to:

  • Add a freebie "value added" bonus to existing merchandise
  • Encourage more people to onboard onto the steem blockchain by giving them something they might not already have
  • It is a way to get more STEEM purchased (raising demand) from central crypto exchanges

QUITE SIMPLY THE IDEA IS THIS:

SELL MERCHANDISE ONLINE? BUY SOME STEEM AND GIVE IT FREE TO THE CUSTOMER

BUY MERCHANDISE ONLINE? GET FREE STEEM AS A BONUS

(..and if you didn't fully understand why, or the reason, please back and s-l-o-w-l-y read this post again) :)

I'm on day 29/30 of my positivity challenge.

Do you like this idea? Talk about it, link to it, resteem it, or write your own blog about it (please link here too though).

Sort:

Wasnt this what you discussed at the hangout the other day! I think its an amazing way to engage and encourage people to get into steem and crypto in general. I love it. Keep up the good content and thank you for your time and efforts.

Great idea how do you go about easily giving someone in person SBD like if someone walks into my store (I am actually sitting in right now by the way) and buys a shirt how do I give them the 5 free steem if they do not already have an account or any kind of cryptocurrecy wallet? Is there a way to physically print a code on the receipt that allows them to enter it or scan it into an app in order to redeem your free crypto?

I think it should work a bit like an upvote bot; you get a code and if you make an account then your post gets upvoted. The more if you write about the experience using the proper #tags.

Well you could hand out a pamphlet that talks about steemit, and says when you join, send your steemit username with this code number (add some serial number to the pamphlet) to this email adddress [email protected]

...and when they do, you now get their email address, plus you can manually send them some steem to their steemit username that they give you in the email.

I mean that would work in the beginning. Naturally we'd need some software to do that if this becomes busy and popular. But as a marketing test, you could do it manually this way to see if is popular.

This way you could also build up a marketing newsletter to your customers as well as introduce people to steem at the same time. :)

if someone walks into my store (I am actually sitting in right now by the way)

That's very cool that I was talking to someone in a real shop with this idea. :)

@timcliff was handing out 10,000 pamphlets you can see some designs on this post:

(look for the links in his post talking about it, to see example designs)

Love the part where customers are been encouraged to join the steem world after getting steem as bonus from purchase ... So clever ... Your name tells it all

Interesting ideas! It could help steemit with publicity and bring more people aboard!

This sounds like a very Good Idea...what are some of the best ways in Your opinion to really get these ideas going ?

Thank You IntelliGuy... Well Done !!

Cheers !!

Well I'd start with the steemitshop.com

A hat plus shipping is like $40 .... if you paid with any traditional fiat mechanism, they could up it to $45 and give your $5 steem free.

After the transaction, you're going to remember the hat, and the $5 free steem.

You'll want to forget the cost of the hat, and you'll want to forget the cost of the shipping too.

See how giving away free STEEM can actually feel good? Plus increase the value of STEEM at the same time?

I saw you and @drstoker don’t have a Steemit Profile Picture I made a story post to make it simply to do. Here

I think these are awesome ideas!

Did you know in Russia, Burger King is creating a Whopper coin?

This is just the beginning of all kinds of creative ideas.

I would go so far as to suggest that you create an account for them, As described in THIS POST by @timcliff, at the point of sale and make sure it is funded with at least 10 steem.

Hey that's a very good idea! I'd like that, so are you going to talk about it in the next #Whaletank?
