I dont quite think steemit will have the user base that some of these big social platforms have. Not everyone is tech savvy or cares to blog. Instagram/twitter/snapchat are super easy to easy and they have apps, meaning they are centralized. Not sure how a decentralized system could work life how you are proposing.
Having said all of this, I think it would be amazing if steemit did grow in both size and value, but the only way to do this is through positive user interaction and since steemit gives out tangible rewards there will always be a lot fo scammers and garbage content created by people just wanting a quick dollar
Quite possibly. But with the rewards system they already have could be the key to making this platform useful and of high value if and only if Steemit could maintain stringent measures to thwart those scammers, bots, fake accounts, and automated upvotes. In any case, garbage content could already die in itself for being recognized as garbage and left ignored by the Steemit community; that is if the kind of people on Steemit aren't garbage collectors. :D
And in attracting mass user base, there's a big potential to doing that if the developers would focus on the user design and experience. And you're right, if Steemit aims to just become yet another Reddit or Facebook, not everybody cares to microblog especially on a still dry looking platform as this.
I agree. If you have too many people just adding garbage to the pile then nothing will get accomplished. But in time with a bit more moderation and participation from those that want to help out, this pplatform could be awesome
